hi all, not sure where to put this so am asking here.

i played HoI MP over IP with the same friends before and had no problems except for the known crashes.

but when i tried playing victoria over both IP and Valkyrie with my friends, they always get low latency and drop from the game regardless of who is hosting.

so far..strangely enough...the game seems to run ok in very slow speed only, when we try to move the speed up to below normal, the same problem happens again, usually less than a game week of below normal speed and above.

anyone knows why this is happening? please help.

We've been having the same problem on the VIP MP test

We've had issues with MP before. We are pretty much forced to play very slow speed only...

That and whenever someone is about to annex, SAVE! :)

Can't do much when AI annex and crash us out :(

On the VIP MP test, we discovered we couldn't change the speed from below normal. Which signalled doom. Has anyone else experienced this? (Or did we break something?)

over in our MP game ToW the first several years are some rough goings. any annexation during the first few years will lead to a crash. However, our current game is now in 1853 and so far smooth sailing (besides normal hiccups). It really wasn't til 1840 or so that it became good and stable.

I would say play at the slow speed and stick through it for a couple years. I would imagine that all the adjustments the players make and the ai makes during the beginning are to blame.

I don't know. We are stuck at very slow speed more or less. We can change to other speeds but too many problems force us to pause, wait until latency/lag clears up, and resume in very slow.

It might has something to do with geographical location as well. We had to use US east coast as host as 4 of us are scattered. I'm at US West coast, another player in Canada, last player in Switzerland. We cannot avoid latency whenever we play.

Be careful with your commands during MP though. All of us, except the host, have had the following problems.

1. Railroad can be built multiple times, in the same province. This waste your resources.

2. Same tech can be researched multiple times. I didn't know that, thought my command didn't go through, ended up researching the same tech 4 times.

Those 2 are the most annoying, other annoying things are like combat. You better not try to retreat when you are in a tight spot...you may not make it in time :)

Host has a lot of advantages over the other players.

Sounds to me like MP is not really functional yet. Maybe in 1.04.

It seems that the speed issue was something isolated to our game. (Our speed controls were frozen at below normal. No one else has reported this, as far as I can tell.) We need to do more VIP MP testing as time goes on, to see what it is that we might have broken. (We were using X's new AI pack as well as VIP, and in future tests we should probably try one mod at a time so as to narrow down possible break points.)

Yeah, that's probably needed to narrow down potential variables.

The host hates it, he always wanted to raise speed higher, as well as some of us sometimes...but, it's just hard to do, especially if there are some wars going on in the world, it seems to make the matter worse :(

MP wasn't stable in EUII until later versions, so I have great hopes for Vicky in due time.

wait a minute, so you mean everyone is playing vicky MP on very slow/slow speed atm?

i tried a game again the other day, we didn't progress beyond slow speed and the game basically went on fine. it still crashed or ejected the players when an uber event happens or sometimes when someone annexes but we did manage to play. i didn't get the build 4 railroads on the same province problem but i did get the unclickable button problem. also, the game seems to run better if we reload from a save when you can't move troops or click on buttons. strangely enough, chat and moving sliders is ok, just moving troops and clicking on buttons like build/expand doesn't seem to register.

me and my friends can paly MP vicky at any speed... I am the host, with no firewall, interent (can't play on Valk though, we try and paly on Valk it imeaditly lags up regardless of who host..) and we arn't two far from each other geographicly (all in the Midwest of the US). However, in regards to CTDs, problems annexing etc...thats jsut paradox, paradox MP always buggy/crashes/every other problem imaginable in general...HOI wasn't stable enough to consistanly play it until 1.05 +, and has only become super stable until in the last couple of patches (although C.O.R.E. solved some of the stability issues in HOI before the devs seemed to, esspecially event wise...so big hopes on VIP.)...EU2 was the same way in my expiernce.

ok, played abt 1/2 a dozen MP games with my friends and so far we found after the first 5-10 years, its quite safe to move out of V.slow/slow speed but we hit a new problem.

We are both on cable and our systems are either up to date or near there (P4 2.8Ghz, 1 GB ram, good gfx cards, etc). we live in singapore (which relatively speaking is smaller than some provinces) but play over internet (not valk or lan). we found when we moved to below normal or normal speed, the game doesn't crash but the non-host players end up lagging up to a year, while the date is correct and events do happen simultanouesly, information on their ledgers and screens seem to update very slowly. when we pause the game, we can see the information changing as the game "catches up" from the lag. this also normally leads to us not being able to build new factories/RR/repay loans and move troops as clicking on the buttons seems to do nothing.

any1 got a fix for these sorts of problems?

a temporary fix would be to rehost, but i cant help you past that... except counters seem to lag less
