About every 30-40 minutes of gameplay i run unto "unable to save game for unknown reason", restart game fixes issue for another 30-40 minutes.

Save to steam cloud is disabled, free space (saves on ssd/install path on 1tb disk).
Tried reinstall from scratch - still same.
Have no mods but all dlc's.

Suggestions?

The most common cause of this is running on 32bit Windows, which does not allow the game enough memory to work properly.

If you are not sure what you have, DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Screenshot cleary shows it's MAC OS, not windows.

Sorry, yes, I didn't look at them.

I don't know what could cause this on Macs. I don't see it myself.
Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK2 or Documents CK2 locations, before installing again.

**File Locations on Mac OS X**
The executable and DLC folder are in Users/USER/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Crusader Kings II/
On OS X 10.8.x and later, Apple have hidden the /Users/USER/Library/ folder. To see it go to the Finder, hit command-shift-G (ie Go To) and type in ~/Library/ .
The user files (settings.txt, error logs, saved games, gfx, mods) are in /Users/USER/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II/ .

Did this - still same thing

If it is really the same timing every time, 30-40 minutes, that sounds either like overheating or a memory leak.

Do you get anything like this with your other PDS games?

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

Also in Steam please click on Steam-Help-System Info, and paste everything there into a text file and attach that here.

No, happens only in CK2 - EU/HOI/IR/Stellaris - all is fine.

Try these settings:
refreshRate=60
fullScreen=yes

This recently started happening to me as well. Been playing with no issues for a few years. Then this past Saturday this started happening. Same error message. Then the game crashed about an hour later.

Also Mac? Or 32bit Windows perhaps?
