Before anyone bothers to tell me something I already know: I KNOW that there is a big that causes black lines on certain dialog boxes within the game when you alt-tab.
My problem is that my game auto-alt-tabs when I startup the game, and I can't figure out why or how to avoid it. Here's a detailed explanation of what happens:
I double-click the HoI2 icon on my desktop, and the Bink movie program starts, and I get a full-screen of black. Then the game starts (before the movie plays!) and my computer automatically brings that program to the front. My computer sits at a full-black screen permanently, unless I alt-tab to the Bink Video.
When I tab to the bink video it plays normally. When it finishes (or if I hit esc to stop it early), my computer switches to the game, and I see the initial loading screen. It loads the sounds, then begins to load the graphics, and suddenly my computer switches to the desktop. This is where I'm FORCED to alt-tab back to the game (or click on the game in the taskbar - same thing), where I see a black screen for 30 seconds and hear the music. After the 30 seconds I get the main menu, and everything LOOKS fine, until I start a game. Then I get the black lines on dialog boxes and information boxes.
Is there some way I can avoid this automatic program switching, or perhaps if I could prevent the opening Bink movie from even playing I could avoid the switching altogether.
My system specs:
Intel PentiumIV 2.8 GHz on an ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe mainboard.
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro (with latest 5.4 catalyst drivers)
Sound Blaster Audigy w/ the latest drivers
I am running the latest version of DirectX, and I tried using both a fresh HOI2 install AND a Fresh HOI2 + 1.1 enhancement.
Before anyone tells me to try older graphics drivers - I WAS using the 5.2 catalyst drivers. These WORKED the last time I played HOI2. But the last time I played the game was about 3 weeks ago. I have done nothing in terms of hardware upgrades (well... I *did* switch from a Logitech MX700 mouse to a Logitech MX100 mouse, but the drivers are the same, so I don't see this as a potential problem-causer), and the only software changes have been the installation of other games, and the downloading of Anime.
The only driver changes I've done since the last time I played was the upgrade to the 5.4 catalyst drivers, which I did just now AFTER HOI2 failed to work.
Any ideas?
