In the game you immediately know if it's a Su-27, Su-33, Su-35. IRL they don't know for sure.
You even get the Su-27SM model variant. Best case you get FLANKER, FOXHOUND, BEAR-H, etc.
And when someone launches a missile, you especially don't know what type of missile it is.

This point is valid for air, sea and ground. You don't know 100% if it's Admiral Chabanenko or Vice Admiral Kulakov. Sure you might have intelligence that suggests that it is one or the other, but when it is first identified it should just say ""UDALOY-I". It has been pointed out that this was a problem for nimitz98 in this thread. Where Pyotr Velikiy kept popping up over and over. Even tho it was currently at the bottom of the sea.

This is how the map looks for CRC Sørreisa:

So I was really surprised how the Kola peninsula is almost horizontal. Yeah I know it's not supposed to be 100% like the real thing, but still .. :)

tl;dr replace all unit variants/names with NATO designation like FLANKER, etc. Also, in NWII .. fix the map pleeeeease.

NATO names are valid only if you play on NATO side.
If you are playing for Russia you should get Russian designations for everything :)
Easy thing is that Russians do not make up their own naming schemes for foreign vehicles.
Hard thing is that Russian designations their own tech are so complicated that whole Chinese intelligence service has gone crazy long ago ;)

Ofc. When you play as NATO you really don't need the russian designations. BACKFIRE > Tupolev Tu-22M3

Also. Devs responding? What kind of internet sorcery is this (Don't get eaten by EA plx!) :D

Yes, It's a bit easy as it is. It all depend on how the contact is obtained. If it's from a U.S. sub, then I would not be surprised at all if they can give the exact unit name since every ship's power plant and screw noise is different and a U.S. sub probably carries the signature of every foreign ship or sub ever encountered. If the contact is made by something else, If the target is radiating then it would not be hard to get the unit class. If not it become a lot more of a guessing game and you would only get a general unit size.

But given all that. Does it really matter? I would think that any un-identified group of ship would be consider hostile and anything moving faster and smaller than a commercial airliner would be an enemy fighter. Large aircraft in formation would probably be Backfires or Blackjacks. Once you got the general classification. Would it really matter if you know the exact type? You reaction would pretty much be the same. It's not like you're going to use a different tactic on one SU-27 variant vs another. So while it would be nice not to have exact classification. It doesn't really impact game play.
