Unit names?

Have you guys settled /gathered information as to the names of different units within the period the mod embraces?

I just wanna know if you still need a good pile of unit names of all Whites from Denikin and Kolchak to Vrangel' and Yudenich with general Miller?

We could do with some help with the White Russians' unit names - although we'd like them in Russian of course. :)

Nurse, can this be merged into the Models.csv and names.csv thread? :)

Bizarre Unit Names & Types

I know this is a little off topic, but I wonder if anyone has come across any unusual and amusing formations during their research. For me the RNASACS is probably the longest. But I am sure there are better ones.

Thats the Royal Naval Air Service Armoured Car Squadron for anyone wondering.

So then, in a day or so i will post them:

Siberian Army (adm. Kolchak)

Northern Army (gen. Miller)

North-Western Army (gen. Yudenich)

DobroArmy (gen. Alekseev, gen. Kornilov, gen. Denikin)

Russian Army (gen. baron Vrangel')

Troops of Maritime region and the outskirts of the Russian Empire (gen. Khorvat)

A further question, formations should be of what size? I mean: divisions, brigades only? Can there be regiments (elite troops), batteries, tank batallions? (Whites had some)

P.S. Russian, you mean that unitnames should be in Russian but spellt in Latin? I can handle that, but just in case i'll send their English equivalents okay?

How does this branch of Her Majesty's armed forces work?

Would I be right in saying that recruits are made to drive armoured cars off the edge of aircraft carriers into the sea? How obtuse. ;)

It would be far preferable to have the unit names for divisions, as they are the essential building block for formations in the game. :)

Both spellings should be fine, just to make sure.

No, no, no. They drive around the battlefield in armored float planes, without ever taking off. ;)

The USN has the 541st (#?) Financial Air Service.

OK, but still be careful since the name of White formation "Corps" does not at all necessarily mean that there are 40,000 soldiers in it, some Corps of Siberian Army had approx. 5,000 people and still were called Corps;)

P.S. Tomorrow will post it

Since we've amalgamated several of the White factions for gameplay reasons, this is my understanding of which country each army group will belong to. (Though I'm happy to listen to counter-arguments :) )

Slightly out of our time period, but the one that always amuses me is the:
People's Liberation Army Navy Air Force
(PLANAF) - in other words China's equivalent of the Fleet Air Arm.

Yes. Thanks to Google:

Now in 1998, however, the PLANAF has about 541 aircraft of different versions in six divisions of Jian 6 & 7 and Q-5 vintage versions, and three divisions of H-5 on maritime attack missions, and a single regiment of H-6.

By the mid-1990s, the Chinese naval air force had a total of eight divisions with 27 regiments divided among the three sea fleets. The principal aviation missions are base defence, maritime patrol and anti-ship operations.

The air bases under the North Sea Fleet include Dalian, Qingdao, Jinxi, Jiyuan, Laiyang, Jiaoxian, Xingtai, Laishan, Anyang, Changzhi,Liangxiang and Shanhaiguan. Those under the Sea Fleet include Danyang, Daishan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Luqiao and Shitangqiao. The South Sea Fleet has the following air bases: Foluo, Haikou, Lingshui, Sanya, Guiping, Jialaishi and Lingling.

Precise:), Yudenich troops can be pretty well sent to Estonia, that's where it was located.

One more question, should i provide some generals?

Sadly not. They were a pre-cursor to the slightly more famous, Admiralty Land-ships Committee. They drove around in Rolls-Royce Armoured cars and Lanchesters with leather driving gloves and white silk scarves. I think they had a roll to play in recovering downed aircraft before the trench deadlock but I may be mixing up my units there.

Well, the missions of the RNAS were to patrol the sealanes for German raiders, and (by extension) to intercept German air-raids on Britain. When the BEF moved to Belgium, the RNAS set up airbases there and in France along the Channel coast.

After Mons, the BEF retreated all the way to the Marne, and the RNAS fliers were left rather isolated. The main German army had also gone chasing off towards Paris, but there were plenty of German cavalry units wandering about Belgium. To protect themselves, and also to help on rescue missions for shot-down pilots, the commander had his own Rolls-Royce car ferried over, fitted steel plates to it and mounted a machine gun on the back seat, thus creating Britain's first armoured car. Several of the other pilots and support staff followed suit, and by November 1914 the Rolls-Royce Motor Company was making purpose-built armoured cars for them.

So after all i have finished Northern Army, North-Western Army, Ural, Don and Orenburg White formations and i have to do: Vrangel's army, Siberian Army and Volunteer formations - just translation.

So should i post it here or send to someone? (they're in Excel format) and should i provide names of Army commanders?
