The unit weight doesn't seem to work for loading onto ships.
Infantry weigh 1 and Cavalry 2 it says on the tool tip - yet I can get
5 infantry and 2 cavalry onto 7 ships with 7 capacity.

Does Cavalry weigh the sames as infantry then?

Are you sure about the tooltip Mendel?
Again, it is the manual that is in error; it says on page 17 that cavalry and artillery have greater weight than infantry. The tooltip might be in error as well, though they tend to be more accurate than the poor manual.

Mendel, just so you know, the Manual that shipped with Europa Universalis II is a very poor source of information about the game. It was a poor source of information about version 1.00; the various changes to the game since have not been included (although I believe there is somewhere a version of the manual in .pdf that claims to be updated to 1.05, an impossibility without having totally re-written the thing!). The manual was taken pretty much whole cloth from the original Europa Universalis and edited to include some of the changes in the new game; it was not proofread to remove things that had been eliminated, nor was it proofread to make certain that all the effects of the new game were taken into account.

For a beginner, this makes for a frustrating experience. All I can suggest is that you peruse the various FAQ's found in the FAQ forum. It can be a staggeringly large amount of information to try and digest, so the best way is to read one FAQ and then try out what you have learned in a game; I recommend something shorter than the Grand Campaign. Once you have mastered one aspect, then read a new FAQ and work on that aspect. :)

The tooltip says "The required capacity when loading the unit on a navy and when calculating attrition: 1 per 1000 infantry 2 per 1000 cavalry 2 per 10 cannon."
Which of course is completely wrong - the weights are 1 per each started 1000 of infantry, 1 for each started 1000 of cavalry and 1 for each started 10 cannons. So the army composed of 900 infantry, 1200 cavalry and a cannon would have the weight of 4.

Left over from EU1, no?

I'm not sure.

The tooltip in EU1 says the same that the EU2 tooltip, but my EU1 came with 1.07c patch version - and the way weights actually work is the same as they do in EU2. So either it's been changed before 1.07c patch, or it's not really a leftover.

OK, I've fixed the tooltip to say "1 per 1000 infantry 1 per 1000 cavalry 1 per 10 cannon.". Thanks.
