I got my Europa Universalis CD with a computer I bought from a friend. He claims he bought the game in UK, but the UK patch doesn't work. I tried _all_ the other patches as well, and they all say that I don't have EU installed or that the CD is not in the tray. I am getting pretty annoyed here, since 1.07 (the version on the CD) crashes my computer a lot (especially when shutting the game down). Any suggestions to what might be wrong?

If it is version 1.07 then it will probably be the North American version. The UK one had to be patched to that version.

Uninstall - using the uninstall option on the first screen - and try to apply the 1.09 NA patch.
If you still get an error then it is either:-

The copy protection that Strategy First added doesnt like your CD drive... or
You have a pirate copy!

In the first case contact Strategy First and ask them for help.
In the 2nd - well you didnt buy it did you?

Its worth buying a boxed copy...........Just make sure it aint from Strategy First!

Well, I tried it on another machine, and it turned out to be the north american version, because the patch worked. I guess the CD-rom is the culprit in my new machine. I'll take the CD-rom from another machine and test it out this weekend.

Thanks for the tips

lol ... except that Strategy First dont have any programmers. They use another firm to provide the "Safedisk".
I know a guy with a CD that "Safedisk" didnt like. He contacted strategy first and, after a few checks, they told him how to get around it!
