Don't ever trust Amazon...;) The most of the time, they are just guessing.:D

With CK not even Beta'd yet, I can't imagine a reliable ship date. ;)

I still dislike the fact that companies do this sort of thing. Why can't they just place a "not yet known" for the shipping time until an official date is released?

Maybe because with a "02 sept release date" they can have a pre-order, they should have with a "not yet known"?
Then when the game is not released on that date, one has to explain why it is not shipped.

I guess they earn enough money to pay the price in reputation...

It is just the way business is done these days. Advertise it as soon as you know about - don't worry if it never gets released - just put it out there ASAP before someone else gets the pre-order sale instead of you. If you have to refund the money, well, at least you got the use of the funds between the time of the pre-order and the time of the refund. So if you get 500 pre-orders at $40 then you have $20k to use in your business for three or four months. Even if you only bank it a get interest you come out ahead.

(Although I must say that this is not the case with CoW.)

Absolutely correct. I am an accountant and did the .com thing in the early 90's. Started with some capital and helped build a company that produces sys log management tools/reports for cisco routers. Basically a monitoring system for your network, and commercial websites.

When ever we had the inclination of a date for a new release or version we sent press releases to all the trade magazines, rarely did we make the date but we accepted the preorders for the new product and additonal service enhancements. Thats what Amazon is doing, and thats what every resale outfit who sells PC software on the web does.

Having said all that, in my expirence the date is never made up. It comes from the publisher usually and I suspect that at somepoint a conversation as had and a date projected. This is old hat marketing and its been my expirence that once a date is out there normally you get the product out the door in a 3 month window. Thats not the rule persay but all those preorders make it onto a companies balance sheet, and if you dont fill them then there goes the asset and there goes the bottom line.

as long as they don'ts say WHICH September 2nd, they should be pretty safe. ;)

Well here is the thing that I noticed, on Paradox's site it states that victoria is "Coming this fall" obviously thats a broad time frame but that would put its release date around that of the date posted at Amazon for CK.

Dosent make sense to release 2 games in the same quarter for a small company like Paradox. I dont go way back here so help me out, have they released two new games in the same quarter before?

If so fine. If not from a business stand point you want to finish the year strong and have your best products ready to go for the x mas season where most retailers do thier business.

So one of these games I am guessing is going to be a late nov release like HOI was last year. Since Paradox is developing Victoria on thier own I am guessing that the release date of the fall is fairly fluid and they will keep it in the que pending what happens with CK. Got to have a 4th quarter release so keep your eye on the Victoria release date and beta that might give us our best clue as to when CK is coming.

Paradox itself isn't really expending much effort on CK, and, if IIRC, originally CK was supposed to be released about the same time as HoI.

was uder the impression that paradox had nothing to do with the game in its development stages it was just going to give snowball the engine publish the game outside of russia and provide a english forum

I should have clarified because your right as far as I know that is the extent of thier envolvement. However Paradox is a small company and to have 2 titles come out in the same quarter even if its a joint venture would surprise me.

So Im grasping at a straw I know but what the hell right?

Watch that release date for Victoria and the beta it may yet provide a clue as to the status of when CK may come, and well its better then nothing.

I get the feeling that CK has died. The tempo of the operations seems to have gotten slower and slower. Is anybody still working on it at all? Maybe there is not sufficient interest. I know that the first mention of CK was back when I first heard about Legion and HOI. Well, both of those games have been out for a long damn time, but CK...still waiting. Of course, it is better that a product is late than buggy, but after this long, I wonder if it is going to EVER come out.

My conclusion at this point is that CK is the "old maid" of the Paradox sisters. Getting older, never gets married, likes to sew things. After a while, nobody even remembers that she is there. Is that what CK is like now?

I for one am tired of waiting. Now I am excited about Victoria instead.

What can you expect when you're on top? You know? It's like Napoleon. When he was the king, you know, people were just constantly trying to conquer him, you know, in the Roman Empire. So, it's history repeating itself all over again.

But the fall can last until November so saying it will be out in the fall gives plenty of latitude. I imagine with the way HOI was announced and released that Vic will be a Thanksgiving Christmas selling season release. I look for CK earlier than that. Of course, I've looked for CK WAY earlier than that before. The gestation period has been so long that a stillbirth is feared.:(

It could be that the game was originally intended as revolution in the genre (a bit like MOO3), then in the development process they started to substract/de-revolutionise those features they were unable to pull off and ended up with something like an EU2 clone. Too bad really, I had high hopes with CK. :(

I still think the game will be as intended basicly. The idea itself shouldn't be hurt by using let's say 150 CoAs instead of 950 for example. It's the fact you're playing a dynasty that makes the game special IMHO and when it finally should reach publication that still would be implemented...

what were some of the features that were dropped? I can't think of any.
