Patric:

Have a few issues that aren't quite bugs, and two that are and are reported elsewhere. Have a savegame I will email to you if you will resend the email address, which I saw yesterday but have forgotten what thread it was in (sorry).

Issues:
1. Can't alt/tab out of EU, really, you DO get back to the desktop, but can't return to EU...it's gone.
2. Would much prefer a nice clean 'Quit' button to the 'surrender' option with its animation and results screen.
3. I think I've seen this mentioned long ago, but there is an odd pause for several seconds when a change of religion popup screen appears...the cursor freezes, and when it unfreezes, the OK button finally appears on the popup.

So if you can do anything with those items, great. As for the others:

Bugs:
1. When I start the game, I have the problem with the small white square appearing...but unlike the other posts I see, the game does start after nearly a full 3 minutes!!!
Never seen anything like it. Beyond whatever issues there may be with copy protection, I would in fact love a command line option that allows me to bypass all pre-game graphics entirely as I have seen on some other games.

2. I have experienced what SEEMED like a 'random' crash, although after doing some investigation of other bug reports, I can't SWEAR that I didn't do a right-click diplomacy thingie. Was playing the War for Independence scenario and crashed in 1780. The savegame is zipped (144 KB) and ready to go if you want it.

My machine:
Dell Inspiron 5000 laptop
Intel 650 processor
128 MB SDRAM
ATI Rage Mobility-P AGP graphics card (8 MB?) (not DirectX 8 certified)
Windows 98 SE
Toshiba 4x(?) DVD-ROM

Will look into upgrading the video driver (which was fine under DirectX 7.0), but somehow I don't really think that's it...

Kurt

Thanks Kurt!

Ok, first of all, email: bugs@europa-universalis.com

Issues
1. You can Alt-tab out of the game but it is nothing we recommend as it seems to be very stable on some systems.
2. Hmmm, will talk to Johan
3. I've never experienced that one personally but we will look into it.

Bugs
1. That sounds like SafeDisc doing it's CD check.
2. Yes, please send the savegame to the address above.

I agree with a cleaner 'quit' and a 'return to desktop without quitting' method. As to graphics, either beginning or ending grpahics can be avoided through using the escape key. One note, if you DO use the escape key at the beginning, you have a higher likelihood of temporary mem problems no matter HOW good your sys is while the game 'sorts itself out'. Doesn't do it every time but will sometimes. I now have three computers of varying abilities (one is adequate, one quite good {a year old}, and the third is an absolutely screaming-beast Leviathan with unnatural ability used for statistical research), and it doesn't matter which I use. Yep, I have the game installed on all three! I have a much more fun bug which I will start a new thread on... <evil grin>

Additional problem reports:

1. Had a diplomacy-related crash last night that I don't think conforms exactly to those reported so far. Playing France in the GC I had just annexed Savoy and with a temporary CB existing against Milan for only a little longer, I decided to strike while the iron was hot and declare war on Milan immediately after clicking 'Fine!' on Savoy's acceptance of the annexation.

First I right-clicked on Milan and I believe chose 'Declare War'. CRASH. I restarted from my autosave, allowed the clock to run forward the couple of months until I took Savoy again, and re-annexed. This time I opened up the diplomacy map and left-clicked on Milan then chose 'Show Alliances' and 'Declare War'. CRASH. So it wasn't purely a right-click issue. I then started one more time and allowed another month or two of game time to pass. I then was able to declare war without a problem (forget which method I used). I will send along zipped savegames from the January 1 just before the fall of Nice which resulted in the annexation, and also one from May just before I successfully declared war...maybe comparing them will turn something up?

2. When choosing a saved game, the country's shield is highlighted, but buttons are grayed out and the message 'Choose a country' appears...so unless you turn the country selection off and then on again you cannot proceed. Shouldn't all of this be automatic when you select a saved game?

3. Also in the game selection panel...I am now suffering the unhappy fate of having no VPs calculated for my first GC because I assumed that when YOU CHOOSE VICTORY POINTS AS THE WINNING CONDITIONS THAT VPS WOULD NATURALLY BE CALCULATED! Of course, this has proved incorrect...but could you possibly make it work that way? How would a new guy have any idea after setting up VPs as the winning condition that this 'Base Victory Points' button would need to be chosen as well? I STILL am not sure what 'Base' refers to, actually...I figured it was something arcane I could learn about later!

4. On a few ledger pages, totals do not appear in the right columns. I didn't write down the specifics, but I think it's in the army and navy screens, and the total counts are at the bottom of the first three columns showing leader, army name, etc., rather than below the last three columns where they belong.

Kurt

I got them

Ok, guys, thanks...I hope they'll be helpful. In case it sounds like I have nothing to do but complain, I posted something in the 'Conversion problems' thread in General Discussions that talks at length about the ABSOLUTE BLAST I had converting France to Protestantism last night...what an experience! (And no random crashes in about 4 hours/30 years of gameplay) So thank you also for a helluva job well done...this is a tremendous piece of work!
