The amount of explosives used as well as the range at which they're used should be cooled down. How many people are walking the streets with multiple hand grenades or dynamite sticks in their suit pants? As far as the range, how far can someone throw a stick they pick up off the ground? Possibly a decent distance, but how accurate is it? That accuracy rapidly deteriorates the further they're trying to toss it.

Same with a grenade which would be like tossing a baseball. The absolute best fielders can throw a ball accurately somewhere around 300 feet (100 yards) give or take. Taking that into account how far could an average athlete throw the ball with accuracy? Then extrapolate that further to account for what distance could an untrained person in the 1920s who isn't particularly physically fit wearing a full suit and is under the duress of gunfire be able to toss a heavy metal object with any degree of accuracy. It probably isn't all that far and nowhere near the length of a football field.

A quick search online says that most military simulations rate soldiers (again individuals being trained regularly in the art) can toss a grenade with some degree of accuracy between 20-40 yards.
