Using command console to fire events not working

Hi all

I'm trying to get distar.172 to fire properly - its the Neural Symbiote one.

on its own, the command requires a scope which I've got around by using "effect random_owned_ship = { ship_event {id = distar.172 }}"

The console says this works correctly, but nothing actually happens - the symbiote event doesn't show up.

Am I doing something wrong?

Try selecting a science ship of yours, then using it.
