Valkyrie.net SERVER Unreachable

Why, when I' trying to connect myself to Valkyrie (with both Eu2 and HoI) it says the main server was unreachable - to check my internet connection ?

I unchecked the firewall integrated into Windows XP. I also do not own any firewall either. I have a cable connection and can plan any other games (like Warcraft 3 on Battle net) just fine.

I'm getting exactly the same problem, as well. And it's been happening since Thursday night, with both Hearts of Iron and Europa Universalis 2. This is a really long downtime, I have to say...

The EA server for Shogun: Total War and Total War: Warlord's games were often down like this. Nice to know that EA isn't the only company out there with such a great service. Is there a place to email or do the developers check this forum so that they can be informed of the downed server? I just bought this game and was wanting to check out the multiplayer function to see what it was like. Since I cannot, maybe a kind soul will take pity on this Ugly Old man and answer a few questions for me concerning multi.

1. How many players can play online in one game?

2. Can games in progress be saved and started later on?

3. How long does a normal multi game last?

PS. I am in no way associated with UglyDuck or the good people at Paradox Entertainment. I was surprised when I saw that an Ugly was the admin of the forum. Nice to meet you UglyDuck and I would like to say; Having participated in several game forums and having been a moderator, I must compliment both the staff and the forum members on their civil and good natured discussions. It is a pleasure to enjoy reading and writing posts without worrying about flames or foul language. My young kids are both avid readers and very curious about what their father is doing online, so keep up the good work.

I have just one more question for anyone who may know the answer. Is there a Brady, Prima, or other guide to this game with all the stats, etc. which would be helpful in my understanding the games ruleset and strategy? I am new to the Europa Univ. series and would like to quickly learn to play the game well, so that I can go down in a blaze of glory when I meet one of you online. Thnx again. UglyElmo

if you have any specific question, feel free to post in the General discussion forum, people will answer you in no time (usually under 5 minutes).

Hello and welcome to the Board.
I welcome your comments more than you could know at this time: Suffice to say that several new members over the last few days have had to be disciplined...... that gets to me a little .....
Anyway as you have been a Moderator yourself I am sure that you will understand just how much one *friendly* post means in time of adversity.
I like you point about your children. People do forget, or not care, that very young people do read these Boards.
The Moderating staff here is second to none and there is an excellent Team Spirit. I think that this comes accross to the members and that helps to give the Board a unique atmosphere.

No there isnt. This game is a "niche" game and I doubt that Prima etc would bother.
The best strategy guide will be this Board.
It is a little cluttered at the moment because of the surge of new members but, once it settles down, will become a great help for new players as the EU Boards did and are.

Great! Thnx for the welcome and quick replys. The Medieval Total War forum just went throught the same thing as you guys must have gone through. The game brought a lot new people to the forum who did not know the history of the older members. The older members took offense when questioned about their views, and the newer members took offense at not being accepted amongst the older members. A flame war ensued which almost damaged the forum's reputation, but the Mods began penalizing a few members who broke the rules and eventually things got back to a more civil tone. Luckily, I have been retired from my moderator position on that forum for a year or so and could watch from the sidelines. hehe I will read through the posts tonight and the FAQ area and see what I can come up with. For a little background on myself: I am an old wargamer and have been playing online since, Panzer General 2. I played Combat Mission, Sid Meier;s Gettysburg, many of the shooters, and currently am playing Combat Mission 2 (If anyone wants to play CM2, let me know, I have several PBEM games going on, but can always add another!). I'm 40, 2 kids and a wife, work 7 days a week, been married 14 years and have been looking at Ugly in the mirror for a long time, so if I tell you you are Ugly, believe it, I'm an expert on the subject!
I don't know how i missed out on this series of games for so long. I may have to go play EU after this one. Thanks again. UglyElmo

I wrote several hex based wargames for Cases Computer Simulations in the early 80s.
Got the Uglyduck handle online with Micronet 800 and the bulletin boards back then.

Re EU - get EU2 it is a better game. Make sure you get the 1,05 patch for it before playing
