Vassal question

I was wondering if it is possible to do something to have yourself released as a vassal from a king. I am playing as Brittany and I entered vassalization from France. Is there a way to get out without trying (and failing) to fight my way into freedom?

Yes, you can try to refuse acknowledging your new liege when the King of France dies although it doesn't always work (I've had it work a few times and not work other times, maybe someone with more numbers knowledge can help there.) You can also leave peacefully when a co-vassal asks you to join in rebellion. I'm not sure of the event ID#, but you have 3 choices: declare war on your liege, leave peacefully, or stay loyal. Sadly, I'm not sure what exactly triggers that either. I think low loyalty and rebellious trait.

This is funny. I never had a "refuse to acknowledge new liege" fail. I wonder if this was luck.

A good way that i used to jump between kingdoms is when there is a crusade...i never answer a call for troops so when my liege asks me to join the crusade i take the option that releases me and then pledge to someone or attack another vassal of that king and after i win pledge to the same king again

Recently playing as the Duke of Flanders, I started as a vassal of the French king whose Intrigue rating wasn't terribly good. So I assassinated my king. The drop in all the other vassal's loyalty that resulted allowed me to toss off the vassalage via holding out in a war until numerous other French vassals revolted against him and dog piled. At that point it was pretty easy getting a peace settlement and my freedom.
