OH MAN ITS A THING NOW

---------------

For those of you unaware, hi I am Veronica and I am a musician, and for the past few months I have been making music for Stellaris. Very poorly. The response to the idea and my music has been stunningly good however, so what the heck I thought, let's cobble together ~10 or 15 songs and slap together a music mod.

This mod aims to simply add a few tracks for war or peace to the game, not removing any of @Jazzhole 's much more fitting music.

Here are the tracks I had made so far, I would've gotten more done really but I really needed to find employment (and I did recently) so the project had to take a back seat... BUT I AM WORKING ON IT NOW.

I also have the idea to create a second pack of music, once this first, "generic-type" pack is finished, the second one being themes for all the different Ethos's, perhaps each also getting a variation for war and peace, or perhaps not. STUFF TO LOOK FORWARD TO IN THE FUTURE.

This mod is more or less finished now that I have 9 tracks made for it!
Expect a download link at some point! Probably wednesday.

I will be making a second music mod in the future with a more thematic approach, this time aimed at Ethics or Ethic Combinations though the latter would be a much heavier effort.

I may make a third thing for governments, or just more "generic" ones for fun. WHO KNOWS.

Who knows, I may get Pro Tools at some point so I can actually use all the shiny music tools that sound good. :D

Thank you for these tracks Wilhiemthe2nd. They sound great, and more music is always a good thing. Especially when you haven't to launch the game to listen them (Looking at you, ck2 dlc musics).
I'm looking forward the upcoming mod which will contain all of it.

More music, how nice! I'm thinking of having my own playlist with the game OST as well as a select few tracks thrown in. I'll be happy to add yours as well.

ONE. DAY. ONE. DAY.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

With that said, I made another thing, with this last entry I think I've made enough music to justify sending this music mod out into the general public.
Thank you everyone so much for all your support! :D
I think I will be making a second music mod, this time a thematic one, with a song based off of each Ethic, or two, one for war and another for peace. I thought of making a song for each possible combination but the number of tracks I would need to write would increase EXPONENTIALLY.

I'll make that specific decision in a month or so because first I have to play the crap outta this game. SO EXCITED.
ALSO I AM UPSET I DONT HAVE MONDAY OFF. D:

So, does anyone here know how to actually add music to the game?
I am currently trying to set up a music mod as I did for EUIV before, but it doesn't work.
This is how my .mod file looks like:
Code:
name = "redsimon Music Mod"
path = "mod/redsimon_music"
replace_path = "music"
tags={
   "Sound"
}
supported_version="1.0.*"

I assume this works just fine, as I hear no more music when using this .mod file (so music is actually replaced). I do not actually want to replace the original music, I just want to change the conditions for it. This already worked fine in EUIV (and CKII, but CKII works a little different, has no .asset).

Assuming this is correct, which names should the mod-equivalents of songs.txt and songs.asset have?
Naming them songs.txt and songs.asset as well does nothing. I tried modmusic.txt and music.asset like in EUIV, but it also does nothing.

looking forward to adding your music to the game thanks you

Arrgh, now I know what I did wrong. I forgot to put the files in another folder named "music", inside the mod folder!
So the code above does work (I just tried), and the files have to be named songs.txt and songs.asset just like the original files.
Well, now it's time to go to bed, tomorrow I will set up the actual music for my music file.

By the way nice music, Veronica!

And I have another question: does anyone know the triggers for war/peace? Are they the same as in EUIV? I think we can all agree it is much cooler to have war music when you go to war and peaceful music when you are at peace.

Download links both here and on the steam workshop should be up SOON. I am testing the mod as we speak, which will take awhile because the next.music console command doesnt appear to work, so I can't skip through vanilla music when it comes up. OH WELL. Fairly sure I did it right though.

I can help, because I have a running music mod.
Here is a description I wrote in another post for what you need in a music mod:

You need both the files songs.txt and songs.asset
They both need to be in a folder named "music" inside of the folder of your music mod. That is also the folder where you put music files.
The music mod folder and your *.mod file (*.mod file needs to have same name as music mod folder; example: music mod folder named "goodmusic", *.mod file then must be named "goodmusic.mod") have to be both in the folder C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\mod

Your *.mod file needs to have this content:
Code:
name = "here put your mod name"
path = "mod/modfoldername"
replace_path = "music"
tags={
   "Sound"
}
supported_version="1.0.*"
Of course supported version number depends on current game version.

If you set up your mod like this, the original music will be REPLACED with the music files that you set up in songs.txt and songs.asset
BUT you can have BOTH your music AND the original music in a mod. I prefer it that way because Waldetoft has composed outstanding music for Stellaris.

To have this, you need to copy paste the original songs.txt and songs.asset from the core game music folder (in your steam folder) into your folder C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\mod\goodmusic\music (example of modpath if mod folder has name goodmusic) and THEN add your songs to both files (as well as your music files into the same folder), the same way the original files are addressed in the code in the files. You do NOT have to add the core game music files to that folder, the game will read those files from the original core game music folder.

If you only want your own music, you must not put the code from the original songs.txt and songs.asset into the corresponding mod files, but of course they provide you with the structure for the code for your own music files to be played.

Note that a song is not played if it is not defined in BOTH songs.txt and songs.asset

By the way a Paradox employee told me in the forum that the triggers for songs are not yet implemented in the game, in a future patch they will be implemented. Then we can have songs that are played for example only when your empire is at war or only in peace time or when you have a certain number of ships or when you play an avian species etc etc
I'm looking forward to this because I have kick-ass battle music in my mod, and it feels better to only hear this when it's time for some space fights.

Anyway, I hope my post helps. If you have any more questions just ask.
