The initial load for me is around 5mins, I thought it was just how the game was until my friend told me his boots in seconds. I think it could just be my hard drive, as its old and nearly full and I didn't see a similar issue on google, but I figured I might as well ask here to see if someone has any idea of how I can improve it.

My initial load time seems to be longer than it was when I first installed the game. My completely speculative and uniformed guess would be it has something to do with the saves.

AFAIK, It has more to do with your Processor; its speed and capabilities. Google on the otherhand, most depends on the speed of your internet, it is after all one of the 'quickest' or whatever (insert your adjective here) browser available.

When on the game itself, the speed would then depend now on both your processor and graphic card.

No idea where RAM kicks in though.

most probably it's because of mods. Compare running vanilla and then with mods.

I only play vanilla, never had any mods. Maybe it's 'cause I don't reboot my computer very often.

My game takes a good 2 minutes to load on a laptop I bought just a few months ago... really sucks. And it crashes all the time too. Guess I am just unlucky. I don't play the game at all any more because It takes 2 minutes to load, crashes after a few years, and then I don't have the energy to try again.

I also suffer from long load times on a fairly new laptop. It takes 3+ minutes to get to the game screen. It also takes 1+ minute to get to the main screen after resigning.

There's a suggested fix in User Modifications here. I haven't tested it out yet. I also wonder if turning of your virus scanner would help.

Try adding the game process and his folder to your antivirus exceptions list. I use a version of Kaspersky AV and this reduced my game initialization time to a fraction of before, especially for HoI3.
