Would it work? I am such a bad player that i sometimes embarass myself. I can hardly ever be online at regular times. I have a 56k modem. I alt-tab alot. I have modified my original files (two event files). But would I be able to play MP?

The answer, even if it happens to come out as yes, would be purely for intrest.

get a friendly group (and preferably a mentor- who can protect you and learn you some tricks)

I can hardly ever be online at regular times.
start with some subbing- play a session when someone is missing.
I have a 56k modem.
doable, depends on quality of the line, and the host.

I alt-tab alot.
opinions vary, but coupled with modem it's probably a bad idea.

you'd most likely have to change them back (it's possible to play with SOME modifications/differences in event files, but I'm unsure what exactly)

bah! you know you want to! :p

Would anybody really want me to sub them? I'd just ruin their country totally :p.

I'd be able to stop alt-tabbing.

And luckily the file I modded was in one of the betas so I've changed it back now.

You won't ever learn without playing and at times games are very desperate for any subs. Just broadcast your willingness to sub and your ICQ number and eventually people start asking you to sub.

Well that leaves getting an ICQ number...

www.icq.com

Get it and then tell us, probably the easiest way of getting a few more ICQs.

But I'm under 13, and therefore not allowed to have ICQ according to their terms and conditions. Otherwise I'd of got it a while back.

lie to icq then.

Indeed I had to do that. That's why ICQ shows me up as being over 100. You can simply never be too sure.... :D

I think the most important thing (by far) in playing mp is to be dedicate/reliable. You have to be able to play regular times and TURN up for those times. If you do this, and play with a good attitude, people will like you. Skill level isnt so important.

Which is the problem. The only regular time I have is 6-9 GMT on Saturday mornings. Any other time is unlikely to be always free.

I'd probably prefer occasional playing as a sub anyway though.

Sounds like you have too many obsticles im afraid to be honest. Maye you could still sub though but subing sucks. Having your own country is what is fun.

Nah subbing doesn't suck that bad, but I agree to have your own country is more fun (hence one shouldn't judge the fun of MP only to have subbed). Also, as a sub people will appreciate you a lot, as long as you follow any game rules and in-game deals people have set up. Oh, and as long you try your best. No use to let that enemy army invade unhindered; at least try to fight!

Also playing in a nappy helps you build up experience... :)
You had be worried for a moment there. I thought you thought I was about 1 :p

I'm not going to start playing MP until I've got to at least 1600 in my current game anyway.

Well, I wouldn't have guessed tombom is not even 13 yet. That is what you get with coming from England; their teens write better English than the average European adult or American university graduate :p ;)

Anyway, welcome to the MP scene :) SP is highly overrated when compared to MP, and remember that not even several SP games will prepare you for the beating you'll get in MP. If you dive in to MP before you "master" SP, your ego will get much less bruised because you can say "Yeah, but I am pretty new to this game." And if you don't fret after the first few MP catastrophes you will meet (no matter how experienced you might be in SP), and you have shown to be a reliable player, then you've already made it :)
