So with the release of Victoria 3 soon upon us, I think it is time to start thinking and discussing a bit about the game's inclusion in AARland (I hope we'll get a dedicated subforum soon).

For those who don't know, apparently there is already one AAR (a short one seemingly), about Norway. The First and Final King of Norway by @KrisRosencreutz . Congrats btw on being the first!

So to get the ball rolling on some topics of discussion, here are a couple of questions:
1. Which country is most likely going to be your first run for an AAR?
2. Which goals/scenarios could be an interesting prompt for an early Vicky 3 AAR?
3. Do any of you plan to redo an old Vicky 2 AAR in this new game?
4. How long do you think it'll be before we see the first Grand Campaign AARs brought into Vicky 3?

You can of course ask more questions if something pops into your head. Feel free to share your ideas!

I myself can't wait to finish my own AAR and try to make a mod to convert it into a Vicky 3 scenario.

Hopefully with the CK3 debacle now well and truly behind us, Vicky 3 will have a far smooth time of things joining AARland. Will be a momentous occasion for sure, with Vicky 2 finally taking up its long-since-assumed-but-never-fully-realised elder statesman post. I'm sure at some point long ago I had hoped to have Echoes all done and dusted by the time V3 came out… Events are a funny thing, aren't they?

Not sure about for an AAR specifically, seeing as I've got my hands pretty full on that front for the next couple of years or so, but as far as simple gameplay is concerned it will probably be someone relatively small but with potential to go in a few directions. The Netherlands or Sardinia or the like. Then once I've got things figured out a bit I'll start the inevitable British AAR run…

That said, I take notes on pretty much every game I play, AAR or no, so they're all possible contenders.

I'll group these two together. I've got a whole folder full of unreleased/unstarted Vicky 2 projects that will likely never see the light of day – certainly not before Vicky 3 comes out. So I may use some of them as early prompts. There's a Bavarian Germany game in there. And an East African Federation run which I may yet publish in Vicky 2, pending some sort of Cold War mod for Vicky 3. Also a republican Britain, which leads me on to question 3:

I've been planning for about three years now to redo A Biography of Great Men one day, ideally getting further in than c.1851 before running out of steam. So that will hopefully happen at some stage. Albeit I'm sure returning as a very different beast to the 2013–15 incarnation.

Considering how much of the Vicky 2 forum is sustained by grand campaigns happening to make it there, I'd say relatively quickly. Not sure I could put a date on it or anything though.

I have no idea how to play VIcky2, or 3 for that matter, so I suppose I could do

Mr Geddard's Rather Unfortunate and Most Upsetting Mental Breakdown

and see if PTM has been at work in Vicki's tutorial or if they fobbed it off onto a lesser eldritch abomination.
 
This is even worse than CK3; we have yet to get an AAR forum at ALL! :(

Yes, I've played Sweden for 2.4 hours now. Managed to make them a great power......which is presently almost bankrupt. :p Not good yet. Not by far. But plan to write about my experiences. Nowhere to post though.

Mmm. You know, the most mortifying thing in the world was finding out the CK3 devs had read Ged's Existential Nightmare. No idea who was in charge of tutorials for that game but I hope they got a kick out of it because for everything wrong with it, the tutorial is genuinely very good.

Is this going to be a thing now? They won't move the subforum over till you write an AAR for it?
 
On points 1) and 2), I already started a Vic3 playthrough as Haiti with the global economic dominance goal. I was intending to name it "Back in the Saddle - A Haiti Victoria 3 AAR" but then came to post it and discovered there was no Victoria 3 AAR forum! A pity. I was only planning a loose commentary narrative at best, but a wave of Polish migration just erupted in Haiti, threatening to double the population of the island in under a year, so clearly there's something worth talking about on Hispaniola.

On 3), I was thinking of doing a new Italy Interactive AAR and bait out the SPQR Paradoxians again, but the first one, Power to the People, was so much work that I doubt I'd want to do it again...

Hello to all the old hands who still remember me from a decade or so ago, by the way. I was astonished to see Densley and BBB still posting in the Vic2 AAR forums! That brings back some memories.

As I mentioned in the V3 forum, I have already have an strong idea for a Mexico AAR. I've written up a rough draft of the first two updates and am really excited about it, been looking forward to writing this AAR since V3 was announced, honestly.

Hopefully we get a forum and it'll hopefully be in AARland as well.

In many ways, my AAR won't be a "redo" but it will be a spiritual successor to my "So Far from God" V2 AAR I wrote back about ten years ago.

My current idea is the "egaltarian nation" objective as well as the general "keep Mexico together and powerful" goal.

Add my voice to those who are tired of being treated like Neanderthals because we like AAR's and don't find discord fun or engaging.

I would like to start an AAR for Victoria 3.


I think we should just start writing on the VIC 2 AAR Board and put Vic 3 in the Title.

Like a lot of people do on the Football Manager Career Update Forum (So you know what version they are using)

Like...sure...but you're announcing it...on your own fourm.
 
Why is this not yet a thing by now? Do they just not want to create a page or what? Even their Discord has several separate channels just for AARs! What is this madness?!

Why though? As much as I can see, not much drama, need for moderation and stuff here?

I rather suspect the correct term would be "unimportant"
