Summary

Victoria 3 will not start from launcher

Description

I run Victoria 3 through Steam, and I'm using the Linux version on Pop!_OS 22.04. I'm also using the Flatpak version of Steam.

When I click "Play" the pointer changes to a little pocket watch and then nothing happens and I have to click "Stop" in the Steam UI to shutdown the launcher.

If I switch to a terminal and ./victoria3 the game starts and appears to work correctly - however in the terminal the output below is repeated several times and I'm unable to access any of the DLC I have purchased:

[S_API] SteamAPI_Init(): SteamAPI_IsSteamRunning() did not locate a running instance of Steam.
dlopen failed trying to load:
/home/grey/.steam/sdk64/steamclient.so
with error:
/home/grey/.steam/sdk64/steamclient.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[S_API] SteamAPI_Init(): Sys_LoadModule failed to load: /home/grey/.steam/sdk64/steamclient.so

Thanks for your help!

Steps to reproduce

Start Steam, select Victoria 3, click "Play" and then click "Play" again in the launcher.

Hello. That could be a flatpak Steam installation issue. The QA department is not able to assist with flatpak issues as we only work with native Ubuntu/Debian installations. I'll move the thread to our Technical Support forum as they might be more acquainted with that kind of startup error.

Yes, please use the proper Steam client from here:
"Install Steam Now"

Is that any better?
