I just installed Victoria 3 for the first time and it won't launch; I get the following error:

An error occurred: The game appears to have crashed or terminated unexpectedly (exit code 3221225501)

I have an i5 750 64-bit processor with 16 GB RAM and Windows 10 Pro installed. My graphics card is a Radeon RX 580 w/ 8GB RAM.

Please help!

More details - I have:
  • uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, including reboots, and including clearing out the documents folder for Victoria 3;
  • checked, and the redistributables are present
  • checked the "Disable fullscreen optimizations" option on the compatibility tab for the Victoria3.exe executable and capped the refresh rate at 60mhz for the game's display settings.

Run victoria3.exe directly from File Explorer , do you get a Windows error then?

No error at all, nothing happens...

[edit] Scratch that...from the Windows Application log:

Faulting application name: victoria3.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x65577cb4
Faulting module name: victoria3.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x65577cb4
Exception code: 0xc000001d

Hmm, that's a pretty generic error unfortunately.

Right click on victoria3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/pdx_settings.json .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

Here is the DXDiag file, along with the .json settings, but neither appear to be helpful. There is no log folder under Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3. The only folder there is \Victoria3\.launcher-cache\.

As best I can see, your Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 does not support AVX, which is a requirement for this game.

Unless you have access to supported hardware, please seek a refund from where you bought the game.

Sorry for the bad news!
