Hi.

I've recently finished a game in VicR after several years of staying away from it and I... had a great time.

Are there any plans for the release of the game's code as was made for EU2 (For the Glory) and HoI2 (AoD)?

I can't wait to see what OHgamer et all can make with that sweet source code on their hands...

I am fairly certain that Paradox gave OHGamer and a few others access to the source code some time before the release of Victoria 2. I also seem to remember that they were remarkably tight lipped about it, however.

It's no open sourcing, but a custom licence. You can find the announcement here. PI has - sadly enough - never made any step towards open source. Since people useally get wise in difficult times, I would say we'd have to wait till the company faces financial difficulties to witness any thaw there.

AFAIK, there was no public talk - besides maybe a wishlist - about any further vicky1 developpment, since all buisness had to be directly discussed with PI and they enforced a pretty narrow NDA.

I'd be surprised if OHGamer or anybody has done any development on V1 since V2 was announced. V2 is so much better than V1 that the project wouldn't have a slightest chance to compete.

Unless, of course, they are making a Cold War or Modern Day Scenario game out of the old Vicky... That would be so cool.

I think the same, and I think the sales would be even poorer than FTG sales that left YodaMaster 'broken-hearted'. Personally I don't ever see that happening, and FTG is sad example of it. The game was excellent but people played EU3 and didn't want to go back to old EU2.

I must totally disagree with this statement and have already packed in playing V2 and returned to V1. V2 doesn't crash much, true, but almost nothing in it works from the non-player management of POPs or the economy, factories opening and shutting within seconds, wooden ships being better than metal (because they are more cost effective), rebellion spawn hell, inability to pass reforms due to the upper house, sliders doing the opposite of what you expect (100% education = less clergy because they sign up as capitalists instead), leaders dropping like flies every five minutes, a pitiful colonization process, land combat is a throwback to headless chickens running randomly about rather than forming fronts and attempting encirclement, extreme performance lag in the last third of the game, the map colours are hard to distinguish and so on. V1 is vastly superior to V2 in its current state.
