Unfortunately, I haven't had any time to play a real game in VIP:R 0.4. The last version I really played was 0.3. Judging from the changelog (which you can find here) the Greece and the Austrian revolutions have been reworked intensively. Southeast Asia has also changed a bit and Latin America has also gotten some love.

As for favourite countries, I always liked Austria and Mexico, both of which have the ahistorical potential of staying big. Greece is supposed to be very interesting, too. Brazil and South America as a whole is a lot more interesting than in Vanilla. Conquering half of Europe with a German minor has, however, been a lot more difficult in Revolutions, but you could always try, the cores are still there.

I am just playing Korea. It is a veery interesting game. In 1847 opened the first glass factory, by 1887 Korea became world leader in Clipper Production, by 1900 it finally civilized, by 1904 it won its first war against Haiti, by 1905 it gained its first colony (Dubayy), by 1907 it repulsed the Japanese attempt to turn it into a protectorate, by 1916 it competes with Japan over the Great Power status...

Korea has large colonies in Africa, has bought Hongkong, Malaysia, Singapore, The Philippines, Papua New Guinea and several holdings in the Caribbean and is now making 1200 per day (while exporting for 3700 per day). It's main products (volume) are Sugar, Rubber and Steel and its still world leader in Clipper Production, but also catching up in Steam Boats. Korea has 123 divisons (most of them native) and over 54 Mio inhabitants. However the army is still technical inferiour (overall army tech level at 12) and the navy is even worse (but at least it has steamer transports). However commerce and industry is already quite developed (tech level 21 in both), so overall the country still has a lot of potential :)

It was a very interesting ride so far and we will see how far we can take it :)

For uncivs Japan, Persia and Egypt could be fun. The former two have event chains to civilize them and Egypt is quite strong to start with. If you manage to trash the Ottomans and keep the British out you're set for early civilizing. Haven't tried it myself, though.

Sweden can be a fun country. Support the Danes in their wars against Prussia and Austria by landing troops in Prussia and occupying Berlin ASAP. Then you're set for Scandinavian Unification and can even grab parts of Northern Germany. If you help out Austra in the Seven Weeks War you might prevent German Unification and can go on making the Baltic your lake. Russia likes to sell Finland and other non-cores.

Another fun game I had was as moderately expansionist Brazil. In VIP it is not that difficult to get a strong foothold in Africa if you don't mind losing a bit of prestige through an early DoW. By the time of the ACW you can be quite a powerhouse and after that you might want to grab an immigration-swelled Uruguay. You probably won't be tech leader at any time, but it can still be a lot of fun.
