Now I'm no historian, but I do know the Vikings were big on conquering and trading etc. around Europe. Now first off all, would these be grouped as 1 probably overly powerful country or what. And is it my imagination or could these turn out to be the "Ottomans" of CK (huge underpreformers)

As the above poster mentioned, the Vikings were well past. In fact, their descendents, the Normans of 1066 were just now taking up the banner as far as ambitious conquering and dynasty founding goes. I will be interested to see how the CK engine models the Norman 'dynasty' of the Hautevilles (who had better be playable from the beginning as they were the very epitome of this game's 'concept' in 1066) and that William the Conquerer's various expansions.

Actually, many historians tend to put Harald Hardrade's defeat at Stamford Bridge in 1066 as the end of the Viking age, which had begun around 790. The ninth and tenth century were the highpoints of the age.

And some stretch it further to consider Magnus barfot the last Norwegian Viking king. In that case the Viking era ended with his fall in battle in Ireland in 1103.

So we may conclude there will be NO Vikings in the game...;)

I guess if Paradox where making the game the northmen from scandinavia would be able to conqure europe before 1300:D . But know the russians are doing the game and then I guess there will be no such thing.

I´d say that the actual battles they fought was not very important. The social and economic climate wasn´t the same any more so by 1066 they were a bygone era.

Now I feel real smart...

...........

You don't think things would have been different if the Norse would have won the battle of Stamford bridge?

So no fun to rape and pillage anymore.... ;)
Well, being a Christian monk becomes a little better (as in longer life expectancy) job. As far as raping and pillaging....that is what Crusades are for. ;)

You can still rape and pillage, but this time you have to do it for God and King. The Europe has become civilized by 1066, mind you :D

For the ultimate experience in raping and pillaging, go for the Mongols! You get to do it on both the Muslims and Christians ;)

Pity they aren't playable...
