Hi there.

I've just installed VV and pretty happy with new additions, and I haven't encountered any problem while playing, but every time when I quit game, the program crashes and I get a window asking if I want to send an error report or not.

I suppose lots of other people also have this problem? I just saw someone mentioned it in another thread.

I get the same problem, and we were unable to track it down before release. Since its only a messagebox after quitting the game, we thought the average gamer would rather play the game now with that popup, than wait a few weeks.

I see. Hope it will be fixed in the next patch.

I think this error in the program files should be relatively easy to scout out, cuz it's just related to the game initalization part. However on second thought, there's lots of stuff being initialized during the startup of the game, so this might not be that simple. Anyway you guys can handle this :p , and thanks for the reply!

Same problem here as well. Glad to know Johan and the boys know about it.

Got the same problem "Rome has stopped working" but just got it at the end of a civil war causing ctd

It happens to me as well (crashing rather than normal exiting).

It's like the game gets offended at the idea you want to quit playing it, throws a fit and says "You think you're quitting?! Well, you're not quitting, I am crashing!" :p

Yep, I get this too. Everytime I exit. I usually have to go into task manager as the 'stopped responding' window is under the Rome window (which freezes)

It's slightly annoying, but no biggie. Glad to hear it's known about and will hopefully be fixed at some point :)

Same error

I am getting the same error upon shutting down. However, this is a lot better then not being able to load the game at all, which was my predicament prior to taking advice and downloading something from your forums.

Similar problem, my game freezes upon leaving and I have cntrl-alt/delete and stop it from the task manager.

I have also got this problem at exiting. While I like the Paradox games, I paid some money on an expansion. I am rather disgusted that it was sent out the door to get those fourth quarter Christmas dollars with such a problem. :(

Don't even get me started about the lack of any documentation such as a simple readme.txt alerting me to what is new, what is wrong, and other helpful hints.

The pessimist in me sees a picture of myself, the Great Dictator, 10 hours into a VV game. I am about to jubilantly destroy my country's mortal enemy with some bug crashing the whole thing.

I am tempted to un-install VV and wait for the patch of the patch of the patch where six months in the future VV is relatively stable.;)

Really? It's "disgusting" that it crashes when you press quit? Please, it's mildly annoying at worst.

You have misquoted me by writing "disgusting" in your post. That was not what I wrote.

My original statement was,"I am rather disgusted that it was sent out the door to get those fourth quarter Christmas dollars with such a problem."

This means I am unhappy with Paradox. It does not mean that I am disgusted by the game itself. If I had written "I am disgusted by VV," then it would have been the game not Paradox.

When using the passive simple present, there is an agent that causes an effect on the subject. In this case the agent is Paradox not the game. (Sorry, but the TEFL teacher in me has a grammar fixation.);)

In my prior post, I was wondering what else may be wrong with VV that might ruin an otherwise delightful gaming experience. If such a minor bug was not fixed, what may remain lurking beneath? I shall refrain from frothing about the lack of read.me or manual.

This is the price we pay for being early adopters. I am fully aware of this and accept it. I shall persevere and patch as needed.;)

Now to return to the other matter at hand, I have an opinion which I expressed.

Some may say Paradox thought that such a trivial crash should not delay the launch of a much awaited expansion. While I see some merit in this, the skeptic in me sees a rationalization for releasing a buggy product. Times are tough and the economic fourth quarter is closing. Christmas is prime time for sellers. Could it be possible that Paradox had some impure motives in part? Dare I besmirch the beloved Paradox name?

Yes, I do dare to besmirch the holy of holies.:D

If you're going to be picky about grammar, then you'll find that common usage dictates that a subject being disgusted about an object means that the subject finds the object to be disgusting.

It may not be what's written in grammar textbooks, but then again such textbooks don't seem to comprehend common usage (eg Winston Churchill's supposed quote about prepositions: "This is the sort of English up with which I will not put."). As an aside, it being 'disgusting' does not necessarily mean that you found the game to be 'disgusting,' the word 'it' being too vague to apply that meaning. In this context, 'it' was used to mean simply 'something' or 'anything' rather than any specific object.

What I'm trying to say is that you know what Darkrenown meant in what he said. You were disgusted that a bug got through, he was pointing out that it's not even an inconvenience since you were about to quit the game anyway.

I doubt it. Johan mentioned that it would only be a matter of weeks (which is a conservative estimate, to say the least!) to fix it up. Christmas wasn't a 'couple of weeks' away, it looks like they genuinely wanted to get the expantion out as soon as they could. Whether this was to free up manpower to work on other projects (HOI3 comes to mind) is another matter, but it definitely doesn't seem like an attempt to keep the release in Q4.
