Marrying my sons/courtiers to a countess

I've noticed in the past few days that I NEVER get marriage proposals accepted by countesses. If I had tried only once or twice, I would think nothing of it, but I'm certain I tried at least 30 times.
One example: I offered my son and heir to the kingship of Portugal to a Countess in the realm of Castilla (about 5 times), no dice. I then gave up and tried marrying to the only daughter of the King of France (it worked the first time). It seems to me that if the King of France was happy with the match, the crazy countess would be as well.

Again, although this is my only example, I attempted this repeatedly and always to the same effect: refusal.

Is this by design?

the problem

could be that if your proposing the recipient normally moves to your court,
since the countess has no wish to give up her lands she of course refuses.
If you ask a courtier ( irregardless whose daughter it is) there is of course no such problem, though it does make countesses impossible to marry, unless they propose the match.. something thats never happened to me.

A countess never gets married. Not only does she not accept a players proposals she does not accept anyones proposals.

In a related thread it was identified that the fact that a countess will not accept a marriage proposal from another ruler is a WAD since rulers cannot marry other rulers - Not sure why but it is a WAD.

But I think that the fact that a countess does not marry at all is a Bug.

To test this out look at the countess on the island just south of Swedan - Sorry forget the name. She has never married in any of my games.

I saw a countess with a child, the child didnt have the trait bastard and didnt have a father.... did the virgin mary return?

In this case, it's very possible that the child was coded in, much like Mark de Hauteville for example (or some other examples I've heard and already forgotten  ). In other words, maybe the child was there at the beginning of your scenario...

I also want to clarify, I'm aware of the rulers can't marry other rulers, this was a case of marrying my son, heir to throne of Portugal (and many other cases trying to marry sons/courtiers) I think it comes down to whether the developers intended countesses to remain single or not....if not, its clearly a bug.

Just wanted to add a comment, though I'm sure many others have noticed by now as well.....This situation is not limited to female rulers, I've seen it occur when trying to marry your courtiers to all rulers regardless of gender...

(This thread should probably be renamed to Rulers never accept marriage proposals that involve them)

You can marry a courtier to a male ruler - done it many times (on 1.02). Ok, a few times. ;)

Brownbeard, where is the reference on the WAD and Duplicate - this problem is not on the bug list...

Another bad thing related to AI marriages I've noticed is that AI rulers will rarely if ever find brides for their sons. Very often I've seen a 50-year old AI ruler with an unmarried 30-year old son. When that ruler dies at 70, the son will be 50 and still unmarried. There's no shortage of brides in the game, so there's no reason the AI won't get some for its sons. This can be somewhat offset with kings and dukes, who often give counties to their sons (who then marry on their own), but sons of one-province counts are out of luck.

I've even tried offering my daughters to their sons, and more often than not they refuse (probably wisely so, since with the current setup the sons would move to my court). Things need to be fixed so the AI more actively looks for brides for its sons (and grandsons, etc).

I've tried many times and I never succeeded to marry of a courtier to a countess,

I'm surprised to hear that someone has actually proposed to ANY ruler and succeeded...I've tried with loyal vassals who were nephews about 30 times in a row before giving up.....It was probably around the 70th turned down proposal to a ruler that I decided it wasn't possible....(The only other time
I had anywhere near as much trouble was when my dynasty had an extremely bad rep and not much prestige...other than that, marrying my family members was never more than 2 or 3 proposals and probably not more than 10 for country cousins...)
