I've been trying to play CK2 with a friend of mine and I even bought the game for him. However everytime I try to start one I only get "Waiting for Server ID!" and after thirty minutes nothing happens.

I have done a clean install as per the instructions from other threads. I have opened my ports for steam and CK2

I'm at the end of my rope here, any help?

EDIT: As a side note I have installed hamachi and we're on the same network, we tried refreshing lan to no avail there either.

Just to check: you've opened those ports in your firewalls, yes? NOT forwarded them in your router? These are unrelated things. This game and Steam do not need anything forwarded.

You might try using some of the many free sites out there that check if ports you think are open, are really open. Try at least 3 such sites; if any come back saying a port is blocked then it probably is.
