I'm just wondering what the "War" value in the AI file means.

Especially since the old EU2 files went from 0 to 100 (to my understanding) but several of the FtG files show negative numbers, down to -75.

Is the FtG AI more warmongering for the same war value than the EU2 used to be?

And which values for war can I use, and what effects can I expect?

(Hey, why stick to simple questions when I can ask them all ;))

It's used for two things:

1. Periodically deciding whether the current strategy is to fight, build up, or colonize. Many other factors are included in this calculation, so I can't give any numbers.

2. Deciding whether or not to go to war with a specific country. If the relations are greater than 140+war, the AI will not declare war. So a value of -340 will prevent all declarations of war.

As far as I know, FTG 1.1's AI is no more or less warmongering than EU2's AI.

And a War value of 60+ is enough to make the AI able and willing to make war on its longest and dearest friend. Hmm.. good to know. :D
Well, only if they've already picked them out as a target.

They also take relations into account when they're deciding who to attack. It's really a lot more complicated than what I've said, but those are the basic ideas.

Does a "war" value of higher than 60 have any meaning? It already allows DoWs regardless of relations, but would a value higher than 60 still have a meaningful effect in getting the AI to decide on a war strategy rather than a colonizing or building up one?

Yes, part 1 does not have any limits on the war value.
