War diary of OKW (German AAR with CORE 0.71)
WAR DIARY OF OKW
This work is a compilation of the war diary/journals of the OKW(Oberkommando der Wehrmacht, German High Command), the OKH, OKL and OKM (high commands of army, air force and navy respectively), plus different other sources, such as military journals, personal diaries, the official daily reports of OKW etc.
(German AAR with HOI 1.05c and core mod 0.71, difficulty normal/normal and basic core-level. In history, OKW was founded in February 1938, when Generals Beck and Fritsch and war minister von Blomberg were ousted due to several intrigues. Hitler himself took overall command of the Wehrmacht. Quite important event, this. To the folks of core: What about an event about THAT?)
Protocoll of conference at Zossen by Berlin, January 2nd, 1936
A. Speech of the "Führer" to the assembled staffs and commanders of all branches of the Wehrmacht.
Summary: 1. The "Führer" is determined to remove all elements of the Versailles treaty regarding Germany. He is convinced, that Allied powers are not willing to fight. But this can change over time. Therefore the Wehrmacht and the economy of the Reich must be ridged for war as soon as possible. "Führer" demands, that we are ready to wage war against Allied powers in 3 1/2 years from now - Fall 1939.
2. The economic situation is dangerous. Our raw materials are only in limited quantities in stock. We have to act on the world market in a very clever manner and have to seize every opportunity, otherwise our whole economy will come to a screeching halt in a nick of time. The technologies to produce rubber and oil out of our coal must be developed with the highest priority.
In the long view, only the seizing of the resources of the vast East can solve Germanys problem.
But first the Allied powers have to be defeated before we can turn East.
3. Regarding the Wehrmacht, quality over quantity is the "Führers" credo. Accordingly, we must concentrate on research and development. An enlargement of our active forces is not immediately necessary. Nevertheless our forces must be strengthened, namely in infantry.
In detail the "Führer" rejects the idea of specialised divisions with attached brigades of artillery, anti-tank etc.
First of all, the speed of these units would be a problem, and speed is vital in our new operational concepts. Secondly, these special brigades are too expensive.
Better to have infantry-formations with good firepower and mobility in general. Furthermore these units will be much more flexible.
4. Luftwaffe (air force) and Heer (army) will got the bulk of research, as we will not be able to challenge the Allied navies without the resources of the East and control of europe. Kriegsmarine will have to do with the ships currently under construction, plus some long range submarines.
B. Decisions
1. Set up of 6 new infantry divisions, starting in June 1936.
2. Research and Development in the fields of infantry, armor, artillery, tactical air force, industrial ressort and electronic warfare. Minor improvements in the naval sector.
3. World market activities to get more steel for coal, as steel is the limiting factor in our economy at present.
4. As a first step to free Germany of the bounds of Versailles, the Rhineland will be remilitarized. Movements of forces assigned to the task will commence tomorrow, January 3rd.
