War diary of OKW (German AAR with CORE 0.71)

WAR DIARY OF OKW

This work is a compilation of the war diary/journals of the OKW(Oberkommando der Wehrmacht, German High Command), the OKH, OKL and OKM (high commands of army, air force and navy respectively), plus different other sources, such as military journals, personal diaries, the official daily reports of OKW etc.

(German AAR with HOI 1.05c and core mod 0.71, difficulty normal/normal and basic core-level. In history, OKW was founded in February 1938, when Generals Beck and Fritsch and war minister von Blomberg were ousted due to several intrigues. Hitler himself took overall command of the Wehrmacht. Quite important event, this. To the folks of core: What about an event about THAT?)

Protocoll of conference at Zossen by Berlin, January 2nd, 1936

A. Speech of the "Führer" to the assembled staffs and commanders of all branches of the Wehrmacht.
Summary: 1. The "Führer" is determined to remove all elements of the Versailles treaty regarding Germany. He is convinced, that Allied powers are not willing to fight. But this can change over time. Therefore the Wehrmacht and the economy of the Reich must be ridged for war as soon as possible. "Führer" demands, that we are ready to wage war against Allied powers in 3 1/2 years from now - Fall 1939.
2. The economic situation is dangerous. Our raw materials are only in limited quantities in stock. We have to act on the world market in a very clever manner and have to seize every opportunity, otherwise our whole economy will come to a screeching halt in a nick of time. The technologies to produce rubber and oil out of our coal must be developed with the highest priority.
In the long view, only the seizing of the resources of the vast East can solve Germanys problem.
But first the Allied powers have to be defeated before we can turn East.
3. Regarding the Wehrmacht, quality over quantity is the "Führers" credo. Accordingly, we must concentrate on research and development. An enlargement of our active forces is not immediately necessary. Nevertheless our forces must be strengthened, namely in infantry.
In detail the "Führer" rejects the idea of specialised divisions with attached brigades of artillery, anti-tank etc.
First of all, the speed of these units would be a problem, and speed is vital in our new operational concepts. Secondly, these special brigades are too expensive.
Better to have infantry-formations with good firepower and mobility in general. Furthermore these units will be much more flexible.
4. Luftwaffe (air force) and Heer (army) will got the bulk of research, as we will not be able to challenge the Allied navies without the resources of the East and control of europe. Kriegsmarine will have to do with the ships currently under construction, plus some long range submarines.

B. Decisions
1. Set up of 6 new infantry divisions, starting in June 1936.
2. Research and Development in the fields of infantry, armor, artillery, tactical air force, industrial ressort and electronic warfare. Minor improvements in the naval sector.
3. World market activities to get more steel for coal, as steel is the limiting factor in our economy at present.
4. As a first step to free Germany of the bounds of Versailles, the Rhineland will be remilitarized. Movements of forces assigned to the task will commence tomorrow, January 3rd.

Summary of OKWs War Diary Jan. - March 1936

Jan. - March 1936

January 5th - VI AK under GFM Keitel reoccupies Rhineland. The population rejoices along the streets. Allied powers and Benelux neighbors show only weak reactions in verbal statements. Führer was right, they lack the will to fight.

Foreign developments

Italy - The operations of the Italian army in Ebissinia seem to face some problems. In February, several offensives to capture the province of Harar northeast of Addis Abeba fail. In March an assault on the capital itself is repulsed. Our observers on the scene are not at all impressed with Italian performance in this campaign.
Out of political considerations, a massive delivery of coal is made to the Italians on personal order of the "Führer".
On 20th of March Italy signs a trade agreement with Albania.

English Empire - January 18th - King George V dies, Edward becomes new King.
Throughout the quarter, the IRA conducts terrorist strikes against english targets ( Germans always wrongly used the phrase "English" instead of "british")
March 13th - England sends letters of reassurance to France and Belgium. They state Englands willingness to defend these countries in case of German aggression. The "Führer" regards this as lip-service only.

Yugoslavia - Both Italy and Hungary are training activists of the Ustashe-movement. The stability of Yugoslavia is sketchy at best, as our military attache in Beograd reports. Growing communist activities in the country are reported too. This instability threatens our economic interests, as we receive important raw materials from Yugoslavia in this quarter.

Switzerland - February 5th - The leader of the NS-party in Switzerland, Wilhelm Gustloff, is assassinated. Swiss government disbands NS-party. Foreign ministry sends an official protest, but our financial arrangements with the Swiss are to important to be endangered by too harsh measures.

Other developments:

January 4th - USSR implements second Four-Years-Plan.
February 7th - Death of King FuAd in Egypt.
February 17th - Popular front elected in Spain. The bolshevik menace is everywhere.
February 19th - Themistokles Sophoulis new Prime Minister in Greece.
February 26th - Military coup in Japan crushed. The so called 2-2-6 incident. New Prime Minister Hirota Koki.
March 1st - Sweden elects left.
March 3rd - US-Panamian treaty. USA reaffirms its control over Panama channel.
March 28th - In order to gain influence in the region, the Reich sends aid to Afghanistan. Generals Beck and Fritsch consider that a waste of resources, but the "Führer" himself orders the measure.
March 29th - Denmark elects left.

Quarterly report of Wehrwirtschaftsamt (economic department of OKW) and First Quartermaster:

Raw materials: coal - 19.311 units
steel - 27.688 units
rubber - 6.164 units
oil: - 18.397 units

Industrial capacity: 369 units

Supply: 19.927 units.

Summary of OKWs Diary April - June 1936

April - June 1936

The period is a very successfull one in economic respects.
April 26th - Gen. v.Falkenhausen is dispatched to command a military mission to Nationalist China. The Chinese wish to limit the duration of this mission.
V.Falkenhausen will concentrate on the training of chinese formations to german standards - as far as thats possible.
Anyway, we benefit greatly from this. Our investment of 2.000 supply units gains us 1.500 rubber units.

May 2nd - Barter Agreement with Yugoslavia signed. 1.000 supply units are exchanged for 1.500 precious steel units. As the head of Wehrwirtschaftsamt (economics department), Gen. Thoma keeps saying, the key factor of our economy.
Furthermore, we are thereby strengthening our ties with this country. GFM Goering, head of the Four-Years-plan department, Commander-in-Chief of the Luftwaffe, President of Prussia and several other things, is very much interested in enlarging our influence in the Balkans.

June 6th - Plans of the Sicherheitsdienst (security service of the SS) to coup the government of Hungary through the local NS-party are crushed by hungarian secret police. Most party members are arrested. A major setback to the plans of the SS. GFM Goering seems quite amused though, as he visits headquarters on his way to the bavarian forests. Off hunting, is guessed.

June 14th - GFM Goerings plans are bearing fruits, as Romania delivers us large quantities of oil. 5.000 units are shipped to the Reich.

June 20th - A contract with Sweden is signed, their steel in exchange for our coal. 8.000 coal units are shipped to Sweden, while 5.000 steel units enlargen our stocks considerably. If these economical coups are to continue, the economy might in the end be able to meet the Wehrmachts demands.

Quarterly report of the Wehrwirtschaftsamt and First Quartermaster ( June 30th, 36)

Raw materials: coal - 22.020 units
steel - 35.560 units
rubber - 4.840 units
oil - 31.522 units

Industrial capacity: 369 units

Supply: 20.037 units.

Quarterly report of the Heereswaffenamt (weapons research department of the army)

The following programms have been completed successfully:
- Great war gun carrier
- improved fire control

Quarterly report of the industrial/electronic development departments

-semi-modern chemistry
-basic electromechanical computers

Quarterly report of the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (Reichs Air ministry) and the Reichsluftzeugmeister (Reichs Air Gear master)

-Fuel injection systems
-Basic medium bomber airframe
-Basic twin engine heavy fighter project
-Basic medium single engine fighter project
-extended training programme of our Airmen introduced. As the Führer stated: Quality over quantity.
- Basic interceptor prototype
-Basic light bomber prototype
-Basic medium bomber project
-Basic 1000+ hp engines

Quarterly report of Naval ministry, Research department

- sub rescue equipment
- oxygen powered torpedo

The Seekriegsleitung (Skl) (Navy operations department) reports the introduction of the following doctrines:
- close blockade doctrine
- convoy organization doctrine
-large destroyer doctrine
- offensive destroyer doctrine
The last two doctrines reflect Skls philosophy that our forces, ship for ship, must be stronger and more deadly than the respective units of our potential enemies, namely the English ones.

Foreign developments

Austria -
In April, an Austro-Czech agreement is signed. This can hardly be in our interest. Our goal is to keep the countries southeast of the Reich divided. A major setback for the foreign ministry.

April 9th - Austria introduces mandatory army service. If we have to fight Austria in the future, this may cause a problem. But the "Führer" has other plans. How successfull these will be remains to be seen though.

April 10th - Austria mobilizes its forces. Surprisingly, the "Führer" seems pleased. He imagines these formations already in German uniforms, enlarging the Wehrmacht.

May - It becomes clearer day by day that Schuschnigg, the chancellor in Austria, is consolidating his position rapidly. We dont know if this suits the SS or Goering or the foreign ministry fine or not. We here at headquarters have certain difficulties in distinguishing the various plans regarding Austria (and other countries as well).
As long as only the "Führer" decides what to do, everything will be in order.
Anyway, we update our plans for a rapid MILITARY solution of the Austria problem.

Italy -
April 22nd - Italian forces take Harar at last. A new offensive against Adis Abbeba is launched. Our observers report: Italian forces are slow to react to changes in combat situations, clumsy in manouvering and lacking fighting spirit. Leadership as well as troops wont stand up to a greater challenge than the ebissinian natives represent.
Conclusion: Italy will militarily be no match for Allied or German forces. In the light of our option to ally with them this is grave, but not unexpected, news.
May 17th - Superior in numbers and heavy equipment, Italian forces finally manage to take Addis Abbeba. Resistance soon ceases. Ethiopia is annexed for the Italian king shortly thereafter.
England presses for sanctions against Italy at the league of nations. The "Führer" seizes the golden opportunity to strengthen our ties with the Fascists beyond the Alpes and invites Duce Mussolini to the Reich.
May 22nd - Haile Selassie, the Negus of former Ebissinia, has fled to London. The English will use him against the Duce in the future.

English Empire -
April 7th - The second London naval conference is adjourned. The Japanese leave the table, as their demands our not met. Seekriegsleitung predicts they will brake former naval treaties and build new battleships exceeding former limitations. As long as the Allies dont react to soon to this ... Naturally, our own new units, the "Bismarck" and the "Tirpitz" dont fit the restrictions either, as they are around 45.000 tons instead of the allowed 35.000.
Anglo-Japanese tensions are on the rise at another field too. The Australians have raised new trade tariffs, aimed at the Japanese alone. Foreign ministry is determined to exploit these conflict. Japan would be a useful ally to distract the English, especially the Royal Navy, in case of war. Seekriegsleitung views these possibility with great hopes.

June 11th - It becomes public knowledge in the kingdom that king Edward desires to marry an American divorcee. Ambassador to England v. Ribbentrop reports that this may lead to a forced abdication. This is bad news, as Edward is a known friend of Germany. His successor might be not.

June 20th - Irish government outlaws the IRA. All the money of the SS invested in vain. It never pays off to cooperate with terrorists. Seekriegsleitung favors dissent between England and Ireland though, as it would be a heavy blow to English naval position if in case of a war the Irish treaty ports would not be available to the Royal Navy.

Other foreign developments:

April 10th - Syria elects right.
April 22nd - Saudi-Arabia and Iraq sign a non-aggression treaty.
April 25th - Yugoslavia purchases Hawker Fury Mk.II fighters from England. We would have preferred to make the deal with the Yugoslavs ourselves. GFM Goering is beside himself with rage. Some subaltern officers in the Air ministry have to go, before the sea gets calm again over there. The GFM is hunting in the Swedish forrests.
May 3rd - Peasants unrest in Poland. A new government is elected. It names itself stability and progress. As if the Poles could ever achieve anything like that. But the day will soon come, when Polish manpower and resources will be put to good use. We update our operational plans for a campaign against Poland.
May 5th - Belgium elects right.
May 7th - Egyptian -Saudi-Arabian treaty.
- The communist party in Argentina has been outlawed. Very well, the bolsheviks arent allowed free reign everywhere.
May 11th - Azana becomes new president in Spain.
May 13th - Swiss government approves a rearmament programme.
End of May - The erosion of the so-called league of nation continues. Guatemala and Honduras leave the league.
June 3rd - The conspirators of the so-called 2-2-6 incident in Japan are executed. We never bothered to find out here at staff why the incident is called 2-2-6.
June 16th - In USA, President Roosevelt signs the Undistributed Profits Tax. Theres a bolshevik under this liberal hide, thats for sure.

Summary of OKWs war diary July - September 1936

July - September 1936

July 16th - The Reich signs an agreement with Austria, honoring Austrias sovereignity. A purely tactical move, as far as the "Führer" is concerned. We hope to further undermine Schuschniggs position and aim for an amnesty of the NS-party members currently in Austrian jails.
The Fuehrer is determined to bring Austria back into the Reich where it belongs. But patience is the order of the day.

July 18th - Following a wave of assassinations in Madrid, civil war breaks out in Spain. The "Führer" decides to intervene on behalf of the Nationalists, namely General Franco.
Italy intervenes on nationalist side too. The Soviets send advisors and weapons to the republican enemy.
The nationalist uprising is not starting well. Most of the country remains loyal to the enemy, the rebels in Barcelona are overwhelmed and their commander, General Godes, is captured and executed. Only the provinces of Burgos and Vigo are firmly under nationalist control by the end of the month.
Nevertheless is the "Führer" determined to aide Franco. Staff thinks he is right, even if the nationalists are defeated in due course. This is an excellent opportunity to test new weapons and our new doctrines regarding tactical and operational concepts of Heer and Luftwaffe.

September 2nd - The "Führer" gives a speech in Nuremberg at the "Reichsparteitag" (Reichs NS-party day). He strongly denounces communism. Surprisingly to some at staff, he speaks openly about his plans to seize territory in the East.

September - Berlin olympic games. We are triumphant. Much more important than athletic victories are our immense gains in reputation. As important as a victory on the battlefield.

September - Deployment of 6 general-purpose infantry divisions. Assigned to I- VI Armeekorps. Further 6 divisions will be deployed in December.

Summary of conference on new organization of the Heer, Zossen, September 7th, 1936:

Participants: GFM Beck, War ministry
GFM v.Fritsch OKH (Army headquarters)
Gen. Heusinger, operational department OKH
Gen. Paulus, First quartermaster OKH

The divisions coming into service now are formed with new available manpower, as our new conscription law has nearly doubled the number of recruits, which now have to serve two years instead of one.
With these new formations and the following waves, the organizational structure of the Heer has to be changed. Wargames and operational studies have shown that an operational formation of six divisions is best in terms of flexibility and speed of operations. The twelve regular Armeekorps will therefore be enlarged from 3 divisions to six each. Their title will be changed from "Armeekorps" to "Armee" and their commanders promoted accordingly.
If we decide to set up more then the currently planned 36 new divisions, new Armeen will be formed.
The Panzergruppe is untouched by these changes. GFM v.Fritsch is determined to wait for heavier and stronger tanks coming out of development before raising new armored formations. Till then, Panzergruppe with its three formations will serve as a cadre for new personnel. When the time comes, new Panzer divisions will be formed with ease, using the trained personnel accumulated until then.

Report of Seekriegsleitung ( naval operational department)
New destroyer flottila comes into service. The ships are of the new type 34/A, a considerable improvement over T-class and other desgins, as its the first real open-seas modell. Plans to set up more flottilas are put on hold, the "Führers" decision in mind.

Further developments in Spain, report of Gen. v. Richthofen, chief of our mission:

By the end of September, the situation for the nationalists seems nearly hopeless. Only two provinces, Burgos and Vigo, are under control. There are 8 infantry - and 1 armored division. The opposition has roughly the same number of formations at the front. But they have to cover a far greater number of provinces. Chief urges Gen.Franco (now new head of government) to use this advantage by striking swiftly in one direction, but the Spaniards decide to "consolidate" their positions and are digging in. Next year, the Republicans will have raized dozens of new divisions, while Nationalist manpower diminishes quickly. Gen.Franco and his staff seem not to see that.
So, politically this mission is probably a failure. On the other hand, our experiences in the field are worth every Reichsmark (german currency) we spent a thousandfold.
So, the chief of the mission recommends to stay.
One detail might be of interest: The US have delivered considerable quantities of oil to Nationalist Spain. (Comment in handwriting by Gen.Warlimont, Deputy chief of staff: The Plutocrats would deliver the rope for their own hanging. No principles above money.)

Quarterly report of Wehrwirtschaftsamt and First Quartermaster ( September 30th, 36) :

Raw materials:
coal - 43.629 units
steel - 44.717 units
rubber - 7 units
oil - 28.365 units

Industrial capacity: 369 units

Supply: 16.254 units

Quarterly report of Heereswaffenamt (weapons department)
- tracked utility vehicles
- basic suspension, basic gear, basic engine (tank)
- 81 mm mortar
- anti-tank rifle
- basic submachine gun

Quarterly report of industrial and electronic departments:
- Industrial pasteurization

Quarterly report of Reichsluftfahrtministerium (Reichs Air ministry) and Reichsluftzeugmeister (Reichs Air Gear master)
- 20 mm cannons
- basic close support plane
The Ju 87 Stuka - The principle of the dive bomber, delivering its payload with high accuracy, was introduced by the Reichsluftzeugmeister, Gen. Udet, himself. The Ju 87 is exactly the weapon to realize that concept.
- sheltered air fields organisation
As we plan to destroy the majority of enemy air formations on the ground on the onset of a campaign, we could hardly overlook the possibility of the enemy trying the same.

Operationsabteilung OKH ( army operational department) reports:
Introduction of two new doctrines:
- Manouvre artillery doctrine
- Defense in depth doctrine
We are quite determined to maintain our superiority not only in respect to weapons, but also regarding the war of thought.
Let the French prepare for a second Great War, our thinking has moved on.

Foreign developments:

July 26th - CSR elects left.
August 15th - Ireland establishes Air Lingus.
September 7th - The crisis around the English king gets momentum. Ambassador v. Ribbentrop expects decision soon.
September 18th - Mutiny on a warship in Portugal. The government dealt well with it, using force.
September 27th - Switzerland devalues the Swiss Franc and drops Gold standard.

Restart of AAR

For several reasons I have decided to start the AAR anew.
1. Have forgotten to change the VPs to the old level to reach normal US-war entry. Dont know how to change the savefile.
2. Will try to learn how to post pictures and screenies first.
3. Have decided to wait for 1.06 compatible CORE-version.

So, I will start a new thread when above mentioned conditions are met.

This AAR is hereby abandoned.

Edited 16-4-04: Have changed my mind again
Will continue this one.

Too bad! I enjoyed your OKW, OKH-style. Almost the same style i used in an AAR (look at the sig.) The problem is these patches turning out faster than anyone can complete an AAR.

Thank you for your comment.
Another problem I have is my mastery of the English language, or, more correctly, the lack thereof. I have difficulties creating the typical german military "Bureaucratize" the OKW-diaries are written in in English. So I was not satisfied with my work.
But I think I will start again soon.

I'm sorry to hear taht you abandonded it. It was an intriguing style of AAR and i just found it today. Best of luck on your new one and i look forward to it!

@Exterous: Thanks for your nice comment.

Dont you just love people who cant make up their minds?
Playing around with 1.06 and increasingly bored without CORE, a long night ahead of me, the two positive comments here... well, screw new patches, I will continue this one.
Two questions though:
1. Can anyone offer help how to change the VP-allocation to reach normal-US-entry in an ongoing game?
2. I would like to change the thread-title to: War diary of OKW(German AAR with Core 0.71), but I cant figure out how to do it.

Summary of OKWs war diary October - December 1936

October - December 1936

November 11th - Signing of Anti-Comintern-Pact with Japan. Apart from the literal meaning of the treaty, the strengthening of our relationship with Japan can only be viewed as a positive development.

December - 6 new infantry divisions are assigned to VII - XII Armeekorps.
Name of all Armeekorps officially changed to "Armee".
List of commanders as of December 1st:
I Armee - GFM v.Brauchitsch
II Armee - GFM v.Bock
III Armee - GFM v.Witzleben
IV Armee - GFM v.KLuge
V Armee - GFM v.Leeb
VI Armee - GFM Keitel
VII Armee - GFM v.Reichenau
VIII Armee - GFM Kesselring
(historically, this general and the air marshall are the same person. For the sake of the AAR, they are brothers)
IX Armee - Gen.Strauß
X Armee - GFM List
XI Armee - GFM v.Rundstedt
XII Armee - Gen. v.Küchler
I Panzergruppe - Gen. Lutz

Quarterly report of Wehrwirtschaftsamt and First Quartermaster:

Raw materials: coal - 52.209 units
steel - 48.072 units
rubber - 184 units
oil - 21.795 units

Industrial capacity: 368 units

supply: 14.097 units

Quarterly report of Heereswaffenamt (Army weapons department):
-motorized artillery carriers
- tank gun 37 mm
- christie suspension adopted
- heavy armored car brigade
- light artillery prototype tests

Quarterly report of Reichsluftfahrtministerium and Reichsluftzeugmeister (Reichs Air gear master)
- Basic interceptor
The new standard fighter modell for the coming years will be the BF 109 of professor Messerschmidt. The interceptor variant D is now ready for production. OKL (Air force headquarters) has decided, that interceptors will get higher priority than static air defense, as flak (aa-guns) can never be as flexible as fighters. Therefore, plans to expand anti-air formations in air-threatened provinces are abandoned. New plans of OKL call for 4 Jagdflieger(fighter) divisions with 3 Jagdgeschwader (fighter wings) each. First, the 4 existant Jagdgeschwader will be upgraded to the BF 109 D.
This will be done when new special equipment becomes available.

Quarterly report of naval ministrys research department
-dual purpose guns
- basic long range subs
The new modell Type IX has the range needed for operations in Atlantic waters. FdU (Leader of submarines) Adm. Dönitz plans concentrate on attacking the English convoy-routes with groups of subs, so-called "wolfpacks". Type IX B will make such operations possible now. Up to now, this is in theory only, as commission of new flottilas will have to wait.

Quarterly report of Gen. v.Richthofen, chief of mission to Spain:
(mission is officially named "Legion Condor" on November 21st, when its reinforced and several modern weapon designs are shared with Nationalist Spain)
No operational developments. Trench warfare with very limited activity. Still, Gen.Franco cant decide on an offensive.
Republicans form International brigades out of bolshevik volunteers from all over europe.
The Soviets strengthen their mission to Spain too.
Chief still views military situation pessimisticly.

Foreign developments

Italy
October 6th - Devaluation of the Lire.
October 25 th - Italy tries to bribe Haile Selassie, who refuses. Not a very smart move on part of the Italians.

English Empire
December 3rd - As predicted by ambassador v.Ribbentrop, Edward abdicates. George VI new king. He fought us at Skaggerak (german name for battle of Jutland). Definitly not a friend.
December 21st - Irish external relations act.
December 23rd - Representations of natives act in South Africa.

Belgium
October 18th - Belgium declares its strict neutrality. This improves our strategic situation in the West considerably. The Ruhr-valley, our main armoury, so to speak, is now beyond direct Allied reach. In case of war, if they want to get there, they will have to break belgian neutrality first. Probably this will never happen.

Other developments

October 10th - Tensions grow between Peru and Ecuador over some territorial issue.

November 4th - Swiss suppression of communism. Very well.
- Reelection of F.D. Rossevelt in USA. Not our favorite candidate to say the least.

1. Do you mean so they enter the awr at the right time? If so, you can increase their WE to 100% and edit them into the allies in the savegame in dec 7 1941

2. only a mod can change a thread name

1. No. In CORE 0.71, the victory-points are different from vanilla HOI. (For some reason or other). As a probably unintened consequence, USA usually joins war after the Fall of Paris. This can be as early as November 1939.
As I am planning a relatively historical game and AAR, I cant have that.
The CORE-community knows about the problem and has included the old vp-inc.file. You can substitute it, and everything is back to normal. But I forgot to do that before I started the game.
So, a NEW game would be okay, but in the savegame USA will still enter too early. So, how to change the savefile?
2. Oh, well... :)

Summary of OKWs war diary, Januar - March 1937

Januar - March 1937

Januar 9th - Altough no new ships are laid down, programmes already under way are completed. So, a second destroyer flotilla takes up service with Kriegsmarine. We thereby double the number of type 34/A ships in service.

January 16th - Important development in Austria: Amnesty for NS-party members is declared. "Führer" very pleased.

January 24th - We take control of our national waterways. Another part of Versailles is void now. Long live the Reich. Needless to say, democracies voice only weak verbal protests.

Foreign developments

English Empire -
January 2nd - Anglo-Italian pact. Hardly in our interest, but the "Führer" regards it as a tactical move only on behalf of the Duce.
January 14th - England sends military advisors to Egypt.
March 22nd - England elects right. New prime minister: Neville Chamberlain.

Italy -
February- We ship 10.000 units of coal to Italy. Gen. Thoma (Wehrwirtschaftsamt) presents one memorandum after the other, demanding these deliveries to be stopped. Quote: "This is outright madness."
Gen. Warlimont decides that the "Führer" should better not see these.
March 16th - Italian state visit to Libya.
March 19th - Vatican encyclical against communism.
March 27th - Italy signs non-aggression-pact with Yugoslavia.

Spain -
Report of Gen. v. Richthofen, commander "Legion Condor"
summary: No changes in situation. No military activity to speak of.

Soviet Union -
March - It seems like over there a great purge of the officer corps is under way. Tuchatshevsky and other well known generals are arrested and executed after show trials. Staff learns that SS has an operation going over there. Well, if the bolsheviks kill their best commanders, SS might be doing something useful after all.

Other developments

January 7th - Poland declines a new agreement regarding Danzig.
January 22nd - Paraguay withdraws from league of nations.
January 24th - Bulgarian-Yugoslav treaty of friendship.
January 30th - A Marxist uprising in Albania is crushed. The ringleaders are executed and some minor reforms introduced.
March 5th - Luxemburg elects right.
March 22nd - USA - Institution of Second New Deal, the full programme. Move towards communism, will strengthen US in the long run. As stated before, another president would have been favorable.
March 27th - Finland elects left.

So, a NEW game would be okay, but in the savegame USA will still enter too early. So, how to change the savefile?
2. Oh, well... :)

*digs through dusty part of brain*

in the 'in game consoul' (hit f12) type 'showid' and you will get the provence id numbers. Then, open your save game and go to 'find' and type in the number. I believe here you can change the VP allocation to the provence. I think. If i were home i would check for you, but im at work (lunch break) sorry

Thanks for the advice.
Will try that, but not today.

Spain -
Report of Gen. v. Richthofen, commander "Legion Condor"
summary: No changes in situation. No military activity to speak of.

Send German 6 INF as exp. forces and crush the republicans! You can't have a leftist Spain if you're going to win the game.

Are you playing 1,05c with Core at the present?

1. Can anyone offer help how to change the VP-allocation to reach normal-US-entry in an ongoing game?

Why can't you just alter the warentry for the US in the save file instead of changing the VP-structure?

Yes, I am playing 1.05c.
About Spain: The situation will change.
In history, 6 german inf. divs. to Spain would have caused a reaction from the rest of the world. I am trying to play relativelly historically. As I have no high difficulty level, each problem is welcome. Would love to have to conquer Spain in the war to get at Gibraltar.
And winning the game... ah, I foresee such heated discussions in OKW and between OKW and the GröFaz (Greatest Commander of all time - Hitler) if I am starting too loose.

This will probably do it. But how to change a savefile? Consider me a S I U - silliest imaginable user.

just open the savefile. it is a textfile, and then edit anything you want, and then save it when finished. warentry, number of transports, manpower. All these things are easy to change. Some other aspects could be more difficult though. However, Remember to change under the right country!

for US warentry:

find (search): tag = US

make sure the info is american, that is, american generals and american units

find (search): warentry = XX.XX (some decimal digit)

But start on a 1,06 on hard (if avoiding game tricks) /very hard (if allowing game tricks), then it would be a much harder challenge (more historical for sure) and thus more intresting writing.
