Hmpphh, every time I head east as France in the GC I end up being overzealous with the 'annex' button and all of a sudden I´m the proud owner of some yodeling lederhosen province (Cologne, Helvetia,Kleves,Baden,ya get the picture). This has naturally driven my badboy value way up and now my diplomats can't pass wind in quiet without starting premature WW1 in Europe.

*sigh*

How can I lower my badboy so i can concentrate on the New World, instead of fighting the rest of Europe every three months or so? I realized that my newly conquered German provinces wouldn´t be all smiles and sunshine when the French rolled in, but this is ridiculous. Is it just a question of buying every monarch a new coat of arms, or does it take something else to placate Europe?

But damnit, those German mini states are just too tempting, as they sit there all by themselves. Is there a more cost effective way to bring them the fruits of the French empire, short of sending thousands of soldiers to brutally annex them into it?

You can try to DIP annex them instead. Saves you about 10 BB points per country (ie 40 years of scorn from the rest of the world).

As for your current game, I think you have already gone to far in BB for it to ever settle down and allow you to play less aggresively. Just continue the same way or start a new, more balanced, game.

Yodeling Lederhosen provinces Cologne, Baden and Kleve. This must be a Bavarian wet dream.
Ick - I'm scared now. :)

FREE COLOGNE! FREE BADEN!
STOP BAVARIAN IMPERIALISM! Or at least: STOP YODELLING! ;)

I was stating the borders, so Rome wasn't actually a part (no diplo annex possible anyway). Don't want Hannover and all either, don't need no Lutherans :D I inherited Holland though.

Quick question: is yodelling historically associated with those german city-states? I always thought yodelling was a Swiss thing or an Austrian thing...

Yodelling lederhosen makes me laugh.

Well, Baden and even Cologne weren't exactly city-states. ;) As to yodelling, that's pretty much an Alps-phenomenon, so Baden and Cologne are safe (for now). Historically, yodelling is a problem associated with Austria, Switzerland and Bavaria. :p

On a more serious note, have a look at http://geocities.com/Vienna/5000/ai/ai0699.html for more info on the black art of yodelling. :)

I'm playing France now, and I've left Europe alone except for the provinces with my shields on them, and a couple of nice Spanish provinces. My colonial empire is very big in 1587, and I just conquered Japan. Will conquer China in another twenty years.....

The little German states aren't worth going for in the early years, but I've noticed Brandenburg has conquered Bohemia and taken two provinces from Austria, so Brandenburg now has ten provinces and is worth going after. Guess I'll look into that.

The Palatinate (my trusty ally) annexed Milan in one of the early wars and should also get bigger when I make a move in Europe. Bottom line for me is they have to be more than two or three provinces before I try to annex them. (Lorraine is the exception because it had French shields on it).
