I was wondering if anyone have noticed that there seems to be some strange peace treaties being signed during large (i.e. many nations involved) conflicts.

Now, I think the "Seperate Peace gives land to 3rd and 4th nations" is a good thing. But I think that the automated alliances that occur when you declare war on an already waring nation causes some strange results. If you look at the national overwiew the pieces don't always seem to add up, I remember one time I played and Austria signed a total of 3 peaces with Russia. (seperate declaration + later joining of a warring alliance for example).

Things could have changed in 1.01, as I have been playing only 1 combat oriented game since then, but I just wanted to throw this out there. Anyone who understands how all this works are very welcome to explain it..

I'm going to try and recreate what I reacted to a while back and post some screenshots + explanations if I'm correct in these weird sets of events.

IF you think I'm crazy or wrong.. just holler. .

Well, I'm not sure I follow. If I understand it right, you're saying that when you ally yourself to a warring country you automatically are at war with their enemies without any prestige penalties, even if you've got a peace treaty with the third nation. This might be working as designed.

However, the following might not! :p
Playing as Russia, in 1846 I was asked by Denmark to sign a military treaty. Denmark was in a war, together with Holstein against Prussia(alone). I noticed that Prussia's division had less than 700 men each, so I though, why not, and agreed to the alliance. The result was bizarre: I'm now at war with Austria, who had a defence pact with Prussia, but not at war with Prussia itself. When I look at Denmark's diplomacy screen, it says it's on 2 separate wars, the original one, and a separate one, Dk & Rus against Aus... What puzzles me is, in order to trigger Austria's defence treaty, I should have been at war with Prussia at some point or other. It mignt just be that Austria decided to declare war exactly at the same time as I decided to join the military pact with Denmark, but it still puzzles me. It happened the once, and I didn't - foolishly - save the game just beforehand, so I haven't been trying it again to see if it would happen all the time, though.

No, I could be wrong but if you declare war on an already waring nation you automaticaly join any alliance fighting it.. or something like that.

Ah, nevermind.. I'll try and recreate what I think I've seen.. could be I just don't understand how defensive alliances and other stuff really work..

I'll get back to you on a more detailed explanation..
