    What is a Gungeon ?
Enter the Gungeon is a video game developed by Dodge Roll and published by Devolver Digital. It is a roguelike, bullet hell action game which I can not recommend enough if you're a fan of the genre.

The main plot in Enter the Gungeon is the existence of the Gungeon located on one planet in the galaxy. It is located at the place where the Great Bullet struck, and was built in order to protect the galaxy's greatest treasure - the Gun that can kills the past. This gun, as its name implies, can change the past (thanks Cpt. Obvious !), and as such led to the construction of the Gungeon in order to protect it from evil creatures wishing to use its power in order to further their dark plans.
But the power of the Great Bullet had strange effects and led to the apparition of strange creatures called Gundeads, who live in the Gungeon and protect its treasures from the greed of outside adventurers (called "Gungeoneers" - those who want to pillage the Gungeon).
Outside adventurers... Such as the game's 4 characters, who seek to enter the Gungeon and conquer it to use the Gun that can kill the past for themselves. In the game, you choose one character per descent in the Gungeon, and the Gungeon is divided into rooms which close upon entering and can only be exited once all enemies are dead.

Deep inside the Gungeon, in one of its rooms.... Gundeads come and go, wandering through the Gungeon's halls and corridors. Suddenly, the room's many doors close.
Surprised, you quickly gaze across the room, confused... But only for a short while. You know what this means - as a mean of defense against outsiders, a room immediately closes when one or several Gungeoneers enter it. All of you take a look around the room. You count 17 Gundeads, and no Gungeoneers.... You can however remember the reports of the floors above yours, reports mentioning a team of 4 Gungeoneers who have entered the Gungeon and rely on disguises and cunning rather than brute force to progress inside this deadly maze.
You realize that they are here, and will have to find them before they manage to backstab all of you. But first, you see that it will soon be the night according to the Gungeon's artificially generated day/night cycle... Some sleep can only help you solve this puzzle.
Unbeknowst to you, one agent of the Beholster, the all-seeing eye watching over the Gungeon, is among you. Alerted by his master of the Gungeoneers' arrival, he disguised himself into a regular Gundead. He can use his abilities to discover a person's true nature - but being a mere servant, cut off from his master because of the room locking up, his abilities are rather limited.

    Rules

There shall be seventeen (17) players. Special Roles will be handed out after the last person signs up. The game will then proceed to a Night deadline.

The game is divided into two periods - night and day. For practical reasons these two periods take place at the same time, from one update till the next.
Each day, all players gather and decide to lynch one of the players - the person they think is most likely to be a hidden Gungeoneer. Each night, the Gungeoneers will strike back and murder the far righter of their choice, and the servant of the Beholster will be able to examine one of the players to determine their true nature. In each 24 hour period, the players will lynch, the anti-fascists will hunt and the veteran will scan. The players can try to lynch multiple people by creating a glorious, Lemeard-approved, TIE, and the Gungeoneers can also decide not to murder anyone at all at nigh.

    Winning

The Gungeoneers win if they reach parity with the Gundeads
The Gundeads win if they manage to lynch all of the Gungeoneers.

    Possible Roles!

    12 Gundeads (villagers):

These simple Gundeads will stop at nothing to protect their dear Gungeon's treasure, and consider the treasures to hold even more value than their lives. However they have no real abilities beside their limited brain and their capacity to kill one or several persons they have agreed upon every day.

    4 Gungeoneers (werewolves):

These adventurers desire to seize the Gungeon's treasures for themselves and will kill every Gundead standing in their way to reach their goal. In the short term, this means killing every Gundead present in the room - something which will allow them to continue further into the Gungeon. In order to preserve their disguise, they will only kill one person every night, while everyone's sleeping - counting on the Gundeads to also murder each other.

1 Servant of the Beholster (seer):
This servant of the Beholster fights alongside the Gundeads to protect the Gungeon against evildoers. The all-seeing Beholster knows everything going on in the Gungeon - but with the room locking up the servant has been cut off from his master, limiting his abilities. Still, he is able to check a Gundead's true nature, but since it is time-consuming and not very discreet he will only do so at night to conceal his identity from the evil Gungeoneers.

"False" Night 0, what a funny GM
  • Night 0

The night falls over the Gungeon. Well, falls. No Gundeads have ever seen the Sun rise or fall, so how would they know what "Night" or "Day" actually are ? As for the undercover Gungeoneers, it's been so long since they last saw the Sun that they don't really remember what it's like anyway.

But life in the Gungeon has its rules, and the artificial Day/Night cycle is one of them. At night Gundeads shall rest, so that they are at the top of their strength when facing the Gungeoneers.

Despite being very unsettled by the room locking up and the report of a sneaky Gungeonner group coming your way, you all decide to rest. After all, you figure, the room locking up might be an error. Errors in the Gungeon are rare, true enough, but it is not impossible for these to happen. And, if there actually are Gungeoneers amongst you, you count on them leaving some clue as to who they are during the night so that you may kill them during the "day".

You wake up in the morning (at least at whichever time the Gungeon has decided to be morning). Upon waking up, you realize that the Gungeoneers did leave a big clue: you discover EmpereurGermanic, a fellow Gundead, lying dead in his own powder, opened like a tin can. Unfortunately though, clues as to who they are are non existent. But you must find them, lest all of you will share EmpereurGermanic's fate.

You decide that using the power of your 16 minds, you should be able to uncover the truth, and find the Gungeoneer responsible for this terrible deed. To inflict upon him the punishment he deserves.

    Game reset
  • The game is reset !

I apologize to all of you. Due to me panicking in the face of something I had not anticipated, I ended up making a mistake I shouldn't have done. A small mistake but it may influence the game, and after consulting the wisdom of older GMs I have taken the decision to reset the game since we are only day 1.

Please ignore the first role PM you have received. You will soon receive a new role PM with your actual role.
Please ignore every posts between the end of the sign up and this one and pretend that it never happened.

I am deeply sorry for the mess and will do my utmost to not let myself be in such a situation again. You all can sit in circle, point at the GM and laugh at his incompetence.

The room locking up confuses you and scares you. What could it possibly be ? Is the group of 4 sneaky Gungeoneers actually here ? Is it simply a mistake on the Gungeon's part ? Mistakes are rare here, but they can happen.

But the "night" falls. The 17 of you decide that against the stress, sleeping is the best remedy. You will figure out what happened in the morning, you think. The perspective of being locked up in a room with evil Gungeoneers among you is frightening, but the idea of being locked up possibly forever in one for the room isn't much better.

You all sleep very badly. You all make the same dream, a weird one, where you wake up to find EmpereurGermanic brutally murdered in the morning. The room then fade, and you see a twisted and evil being (likely the Gungeon's master) screaming seemingly in pain about his own incompetence and the need to do things anew, switching back and forth between the common tongue and a strange language you do not speak, but which sounds like the language of pure Evil.

You all wake up sweaty and do not feel well rested. And upon waking up, you wonder what could this dream possibly be about.

Because in the corner of a room, you can see EmpereurGermanic. Or more accurately, what is left of him after his horrible death - all of his powder has been burnt.

At least, this act has one clear benefit: it makes it obvious that the Gungeoneers are among you. Presumably all 4 of them, though this information you can not verify. Since you are not sure how many of them there are (a couple could've died on their way here), you decide to find the most obvious Gungeoneer among you and kill him.

Since you all are Tableists, you all ask the Great Table to illuminate your brains and help you find one of the Gungeoneers by reading some of the Holy Words, namely the Chapter 1 of the "Tabla Sutra":

"And when a table is masterfully flipped, what a most magnificent sight! Surely all who witness the flip of a true master can only stand transfixed, agog."

After hearing the revelation, all of you stay silent. You are all thinking, counting on the Great Table to designate one of the Gungeoneers. Unfortunately, the ways of the Great Table are mysterious, and you can hardly agree on one candidate. Clans form, voting for various candidates, before finally a majority manages to make a name stand out of the rank: Dedonus. Yes, Dedonus is clearly the most suspicious person here. The Great Table proclaims so ! He must die.

You execute him rather brutally - it's more of a murder than an execution. Finally, when scraps are what is left of Dedonus, you can only stand, bewildered, in front of the small heap of powder in the middle of the room. Dedonus was actually a Gundead. Who knew ?

Since it is already late, you decide to go to sleep again. On top of that, you figure, killing an innocent after reciting the Holy Words has surely angered the Great Table. Trying your luck again today would surely be most unwise.

In the morning, you are sadly not surprised to see another one of your kin dead. Rovsea is inside a wall, having being fired from a gun which, you hope, you will never face.

    Day and Night 2
  • Day and Night 2

After your unsuccessful search for the Gungeoneers the previous day, you decide to have a go at it again today. With added pressure - you really want to correct yesterday's mistake !

You decide to look for the most plausible Gungeoneer among you first, though. The debates start slowly. It is hard to understand whether everyone is still half asleep - one doesn't sleep very well in the Gungeon's rooms, it is true - or just using the full power of their brain to make sure a Gungeoneer is caught.

Rather quickly, though, a name starts being pronounced more and more: CaesarCzech. Who is not even defending himself, instead lying asleep in a corner. You try your best to wake him up - he at least deserves to defend himself ! -, but without any success. Finally, you decide that such a deep slumber can only be because CaesarCzech is a Gungeoneer still resting after last night's terrible deed.

You decide, though, to check whether or not the Great Table approves your choice. To that effect, your read the next chapter of the Revelation:

"When a table is flipped, does it not feel anger? Does it not feel rage? Understand that feeling, and when you flip the table, be yourself flipped."

After pondering on them for a minute, you all agree: you are all feeling anger towards CaesarCzech, and as such the Great Table is approving his death.

You decide to burn him at the stake in the room's chimney. But instead of the terrible cries of agony of a human being burned alive, you only hear a detonation. CaesarCzech was indeed a simple Gundead.

The night however proves much more interesting than the previous ones. You are not surprised to find another Gundead, Tus3, dead - his powder scattered in a circle all around him. The mark of the evil Gungeoneers, no doubt.

Two other deaths can't be attributed to them, though. Jeray2000 doesn't wake up. You push him to try to get him on his feet, but when doing so he merely opens, revealing an empty shell. It seems this Gundead was born with less powder than the others and ran out already.

You try to wake up Panzer Commader, who is oversleeping too. You have no luck, but when pushing him you hear strange noises coming from inside. You open him, and find what is clearly a human inside. Except for the head, he's wearing a full armor. And looks more dead than asleep, too - but since you don't want to take risks, you throw him into the fire. The lack of screams usually associated with burning a man alive confirms the earlier diagnostic: Panzer Commader, one of the evil Gungeoneers, died during the night for natural reasons.

It was probably the Great Table balancing the natural death of a Gundead by the natural death of a Gungeoneer, you figure.

    Day and Night 3
  • Day and Night 3

Still shaken by the events of the previous night, the day's discussion take quite some time to get started. But after reading the "Tabla Sutra" Chapter 3:

"And in flipping the table, we are bettered. He who knows the table knows himself."

The Holy Words seem to have quite an effect on Dedonus 2.0, who springs up as if he just had a revelation: "Rovsea v2 is actually a Gungeoneer ! I know it !"

All too happy to have a scapegoat for the day, you follow his words for the day. And he wasn't lying to you. After beating Rovsea v2 to death, the red pool of blood that appears on the floor leaves little doubt remaining: Rovsea v2 was indeed an evil Gungeoneer !

But your torments seem endless, for you wake up only to find two more empty shells. While Capibara simply doesn't wake up, Caillean was clearly murdered during her sleep. Both were innocent Gundeads.

    Day 4
  • Day 4

Having already killed half of the Gungeoneers, you finally sense the end of this trial getting near. Full of confidence in your abilities to find the 2 remaining Gungeoneers quickly, you start the discussion early. The debate is settled very fast, though: you all agree that Graf Zeppelin is clearly a Gungeoneer. You settle for her execution and are about to recite the Holy Words before proceeding when Dedonus suddenly starts yelling, telling you all that you're making a terrible mistake, because he actually knows for a fact that alynkio is an evli Gungeoneer !

You turn towards alynkio. He doesn't even try to defend himself. You recite the 4th chapter of the "Tabla Sutra", the one which says:

"A clear table leads to a clear mind."

And it is with a clear mind that you kill alynkio by opening him up. Well, this doesn't kill him, because it turns out he's actually a Gungeoneer hiding inside a Gundead shell likely stolen on one of his victims. That's only a temporary relief for him, however: the tens of bullets which enter his body afterwards make short work of him.

    Night 4
  • Night 4

You all go to sleep filled with confidence and joy. You all feel like the last Gungeoneer is going to be found tomorrow. You simply know it ! But a sense of dread envelops you too - after all, it is likely that one of you will pay for your success with his life. You mostly hope that it won't be you, but you can't help but feel sad about the death of one of your faithful companions. Vengeance will be swift, you reckon.

When you wake up in the morning, it is to your great surprise to find that all of you are alive! Wondering how this might be, it turns out you can't wake Graf Zeppelin up: shaking her up, you hear strange noises coming from inside, just like with Panzer Commader. You decide to open her, and you indeed find a human inside. She's seemingly asleep, but you've got no doubt that the Great Table has decided to enact vengeance for the fallen Gundeads, just like she did with Panzer Commader. You decide just to make sure by setting the body on fire, though. Just in case. But Graf Zeppelin simply turns to ashes without reacting.

To honor the divinity which made your victory possible, you decide to read aloud the last chapter of the Tabla Sutra:

"A poor man sells tables. A rich man buys tables. The wise man flips tables, and cares not for mundane possessions of the physical world. In this way, he becomes truly wealthy."

And you indeed feel wiser as the doors of the room open up. As you prepare to go, you suddenly realize that you are forgetting Wagonlitz still sleeping in a corner. You hesitate, fearing the worst, and approach him. You try to tell him it is over, you've won, but he doesn't react. Suddenly, Arkasas has an idea and whispers to his ear: "Hey Wagon, wake up, else shifty-looking Gungeoneers will come and disrupt the lower floor's minecart lines !". He instantly wakes up at these words and you leave the room, swearing never to return here.

    The GM's final words
  • Your GM's take on the game

Let's be blunt - I was a terrible GM. This game was an unmitigated disaster - for me. It was a terrible game to GM for one reason - I GMed it in a catastrophic way. Leaves a real bitter taste in my mouth.

I have no idea why I went ahead with @Panzer Commader and @jeray2000 's autolynches. With alynkio scanned Night 0 - sorry alynkio, you were the random Night 0 scan -, and Rovsea v2 scanned a couple nights later, I knew that autolynching Panzer was essentially giving the village the victory. Yet I was too focused on the principle of "one missed vote = sub, or autolynch if no sub available" to act rationally and give them a second chance.

A principle, btw, which I applied because I thought it was in use here. But afterwards, curious, I decided to read a couple older Lites... And realized nobody actually autolynches players at the first missed vote. Of course. Why would you do that ?

I also realized, at various points, that.... I just didn't know what I was doing. When you're organizing something, you need to have a pretty detailed idea of what you want to do. But here I was, clueless, navigating on sight. I was not trying to GM; I was trying to be what I figured was a standard Werewolf Lite GM here (and ended up being quite far off the target). Heck, my rules and my GM's color are stolen, because I thought stealing them was enough to be a GM !

I will try my hand at GMing Werewolf Lite again, if there are still players who will accept to play one of my games. But first I will have to erase the rules that are contained in the OP, and write my own rules from scratch to bottom. And take my own color while I'm at it.

I'm sorry for ruining what could've been a perfectly fine game otherwise. I can only offer you my deepest apologies for the waste of your time this game has been, and hope we can move on with the next Lite's game, which is to be hosted by... whoever wants it, I think ?

And if you got this far, thanks for having the patience to read my Communist-style autocritic :)
