I sure am glad people on these paradox forums recommended this game. Kind of reminds me of Civilization as far as playability, except a lot better balanced and closer to reality complexity. I keep playing as Brazil in the grand campaign. Keep getting so far, then run into a problem, realize I've made a mistake somewhere along the line. Then I start all over again without making the same mistake...but keep making a new mistake. Each time I make a mistake I learn something new. Keep getting better, but still haven't completed a game.

Took a long time to get a handle on the sliders. Finally learned that the extremes on the sliders can throw things off balance. Better to stay to the middle until I'm in a stable position.

It took the longest time to figure out how to prevent France from over-running me around in 1860 or so. After getting overrun by Chile, learned to make a mobilization force. Now I'm trying to learn how to keep the industry rolling while simultaneously preventing the population from revolting about the turn of the century.

This game seems very realistic in the give and take and pros and cons of the various options. There isn't a right and wrong or best answer. Just different ways to play.

Learning a bit of history and geography too.

By the way, the community has been a big help and very responsive.

Oh well, back to the 1830's.

Glad you like it. Good old Vicky is still my favourite game by far. Now, if I could only find some time to play it. :eek:o

The factors you mention are also the ones that really appeal to me. Unfortunately, there are also some no-brainer decisions like reforming to a democracy and keeping education funding on maximum. Hopefully, Vicky 2 will take care of those.

Yeah, I've been playing Victoria for a year or two now and I'm still constantly learning new stuff on each new campaign. The game is so deep that there's always a new angle or strategy to try.

Yep vic is definetly the most complex game that Im able to learn how to play (supreme ruler looked even better but I didnt even complete a tutorial it was a nightmare of complexity IMHO). The problem with most games is that the political and specially the economic aspect of them are way to shallow to engage the player on them, becoming just a way to secure the necesary funds to get a decent army going as the gameplay is based in combat and risk style anexations.

Vic is the only game i've found so far that the non military aspects are in fact more interesting than the strictly military ones (thou most players wont agree judging by their AAR's:D)

Lets just hope that vic 2 doesnt screw up the accomplishments of victoria revolutions like Hoi3 did with Hoi2::()

So far the game looks good on the screenshots although I like much less the new paradox maps than the older ones, but I think that Im the only one that thinks so...so....
