I sure am glad people on these paradox forums recommended this game. Kind of reminds me of Civilization as far as playability, except a lot better balanced and closer to reality complexity. I keep playing as Brazil in the grand campaign. Keep getting so far, then run into a problem, realize I've made a mistake somewhere along the line. Then I start all over again without making the same mistake...but keep making a new mistake. Each time I make a mistake I learn something new. Keep getting better, but still haven't completed a game.
Took a long time to get a handle on the sliders. Finally learned that the extremes on the sliders can throw things off balance. Better to stay to the middle until I'm in a stable position.
It took the longest time to figure out how to prevent France from over-running me around in 1860 or so. After getting overrun by Chile, learned to make a mobilization force. Now I'm trying to learn how to keep the industry rolling while simultaneously preventing the population from revolting about the turn of the century.
This game seems very realistic in the give and take and pros and cons of the various options. There isn't a right and wrong or best answer. Just different ways to play.
Learning a bit of history and geography too.
By the way, the community has been a big help and very responsive.
Oh well, back to the 1830's.
