I am playing China and the British declared a colonial war on me. I landed some Cavs on Australia, but I can not seem to take provinces that have colonial buildings in them...even if I stop there for a day (as it says to do in the vicky wiki). I have version 1.03c. What do I need to do to take the provinces with colonial buildings (i.e. missions, fort, trading posts..etc)?

Stopping there for a day should be enough.

Are you sure the flag in the province did not change to yours? That's what happens when you conquer an unclaimed colony. You don't need to have a claim already and you don't need to be a civilized country either.

No, I tried again last night. Was at war with the British (1st Opium war), had Cav units stand over a province with a mission in it with a British flag. I was there for 5 days, stopped, and the flag remain British. I am playing with version 1.03c and I remember years ago when I patched to 1.04 that this happened, but I can remember doing it with version 1.03c.

Uncivs can't steal claims any more. They could originally but that was changed by 1.03c. I used to love being China and having the Opium War happen; I would steal every British claim in the world and when the war was over, there would be Chinese North America, Chinese Africa; Australia and New Zealand would be overflowing with Chinese migrants. You could turn any place in the world into one of your fully-functioning national states.

But they change the game with every new patch and you have to develop new tactics and strategies. That's ok, if the rules stayed the same it would be boring.
