For some time now, we have been able to adjust the number of buses on each bus line, using the "Vehicle Count Modifier" sliding tool. So if you want more buses on a particular line, you simply slide the tool to the right (slide it left to have fewer). Sliding the tool all the way to the right, will tell you the maximum number of buses that you can select for that particular line.

But what determines the maximum number allowable, for each bus line ?
I thought I read somewhere, that it was based on the number of bus stops on that line. But I have some bus lines with less stops, yet it allows me to choose more buses compared to a line that has more stops.
I'm confused.

Here is my breakdown for my five bus lines :

...........................Stops.......Max # of vehicles
Bus LIne 1..........8.........................21
Bus Line 2..........6.........................24
Bus Line 3..........7.........................18
Bus Line 4..........8.........................21
Bus Line 5..........6.........................18

Now that you bring it to my attention I want to know this too. I'll do some proper tests of this soon.

On a related side note the number of vehicles available on the slider are also affected by your budget. I have found I can set most of my mass transit budgets to 50% and still be able to get as many vehicles on the line as I like.

Its distance. Made this as obvious as possible in the screenshot.

Thank you Promethian.

Edit to add: Promethian, your number of vehicles is with the slider moved all the way to the right, correct ? Those are the maximum number of buses you can manually select ?

That is the default slider at 100%.

Promethian,
What exactly do you mean when you say the "slider is at 100%" ?
Sorry to keep asking questions, but I just want to make sure that anyone reading this thread (now and in the future) is not confused.
The reason I ask is that when the slider is moved all the way to the left (lowest possible), the setting says it is at "5%." When the slider is moved to maximum number of vehicles, which is all the way to the right, the setting says it is at "500%."

So again, when you say the "slider is at 100%," do you mean that the slider literally reads at "100%" ? Or do you mean that the slider is set to its maximum setting, which is actually 500% ? Remember, my initial question and concern is about with the maximum setting (the slider moved all the way to the right).

In my 2020 city, i have 13 bus lines. In half of them, the equation "max nb of buses allowed = rounded [line length * 1.5]" is accurate. For other ones, the allowed nb is 1-2 buses above.

BUT
, my FIRST line (18 km long, like 5 other ones) accepts 44 buses instead of 18 * 1.5 = 27 .

The modifier of the number of buses is at 100 % for all the lines, and budget restraint is off.

My hypothesis (?) :
- either every 1st line has a bonus which allows it to work with the formula "rounded [line length * 2.5] ;
- or some lines have additional buses if they provide stops near educational or health buildings (which could explain the fact the game include automatically school buses here and not there.
