Return of the elves is very good as it adds 4th faction (although one enemy leader uses them only) - they are overpowered as lot of units have special skills. Fun to play I guess but all i need are undeads anyway.

Master of Artifacts is cool if you plan to use heroes as you can make your own artifacts with very powerfull abilities/effects then - but keep in mind its quite lategame feature. I would say turn 120+ - its very awesome on big maps.

Power of the serpent is okayish - not really must have. It adds new leader and koatl village wchich adds only 2 units as far as i remember. You can buy it a lot later on sale as it isnt really worth 3$ pricetag.

Powerfull Lords - terrible for 2$ - adds only 2 new heroes that you can get IF you spend 5 or so of 10 points you get on start to customize faction. Get it only at sale.



They have planned also tommorow new dlc for 5$ - Armageddon wchich adds new game mode and we dont know what yet :) Looks like it will be worth it though.
 
Just got the base game and I was wondering what DLC's are worth purchasing? Or stated differently, if I was getting them one at time, what order would you purchase them in?

They were released as follows:
1. Powerful Lords (pre-order)

2. Power of the Serpent

3. Master of Artifacts
4. Return of the Elves

Personally Id suggest you play the base game first. A few times. At least once with each race.

Then Id suggest getting all the DLC as it will change your gaming experience totally. The most significant is the Elves one, which provides a completely new race and thus will give you the chance to replay the game through a new experience.

If you want to miss out on any then probably Powerful lords isnt required as much as the other.

- Oh and dont forget there is a new DLC - Armaggedon on the way!

1) Return of the Elves: Extra race. That's 33% more playable races then before. Must get!

2) Power of the Serpent: Okaish. You get 4 new Koatl units, that can be recruited with new resource (Koatl village), plus new leader and few wizard traits (one that gives you that same resource near capital). May be worth money, but not more then that. Can spice a game a bit, if you start with wizard that has Koatl village at start. It's not like having a totally new race, like with elves, but it makes for a different flavor.

3 & 4) Master of Artifacts & Powerful Lords: Both overpriced. First is just one extra spell, that lets you make your own artifacts. While second is two wizard traits that give you free hero unit. At best, they may be worth for the price of one.
 
I disagree a bit with other people

Most important is totally the elf version, but I would rate powerfull lord as second best. It is equal or better than power of the serpent, juat because I find it very fun to start of with a hero sometimes.
 
IMO:
Elves are a must have totally awesome!
Power of serpernt - AI doesnt use the new units, and if you dont either you will never see them in game.
Master of artifacts and Powerful lords - bleh not worth it both dlcs should be implemented differently. Bought it just to support the devs.
 
Elves is a must have. New race to start.

Powerful Lords is by far the worse. When Heroes were added, they became just another hero, they lost a lot of their luster.

Other 2 are not bad, but I've heard you can still find the villages, without Serpent DLC, so you could get away without them.
 
Actually, I'm pretty sure you need to have Serpent DLC, to have villages on the map.

Koatl trait only helps you gain the village early in the game.

As for AI, Koatl Queen uses those units, since it starts with the village trait. Other races only rarely (if they actually find some village on the map, early).

I've never seen a Koatl village without taking the trait.
 
Gamestop have a 75% off offer for all of them at the moment (they activate though Steam), so you could pick them all up pretty cheaply.

Since noone else seems to think so, I'll just say that Master of Artifacts is my favorite DLC... making custom artifacts for heroes, yum...

it is nice but it should be implemented throught some kind of crafting screen, it shouldnt use a spell slot, by the time i get the spell and have mana to create artifact i need the spell slot to cast enchantments on my units.Vampirism on some of my units is way better than artifact for heroes who have allready reached 5+ level. I'll take 2 well placed lightning bolts anytime before artifact.
 
The koatl villages are out there..you usually find them in the pocket worlds or in areas around portals that have a high concentration of powerful tiles. Serpent DLC is great and dont discount the +melee/missle upgrade as a +10 points can be more than 10% dmg reduction, for free, for every troop given the gradient the game uses to determine resistance..the artifact one is fun too if you like building up your heroes.
 
I will agree with the crowd and say the Elves one is the most worthwhile.

For me, Artifacts and Lords are only worthwhile if you will be playing against live human opponents. The game does not need more ways to beat the poor AI. It is possible that Armageddon changes this and the well equipped lords are key to surviving.

The Koatl one, does not appeal to me at all. It might be good, but I will likely never know. :)
