Hey everyone. This is a huge noobie question but I am not sure exactly what to do. I tried conquering some of the other kingdoms but I realized that you get large penalties for controlling other kingdoms. It seems like they want you to give those to your minor subjects to control. Are you still expanding as emperor? Do you just keep an eye on everyone else? Do you attempt to put members of your dynasty on the other thrones?

Thanks in advance,
Midas

If I'm ironborn and take the throne I play the "salt wife game". IE you take a salt wife from ever culture all over the world and have them all alive at one time. Or the even harder "have a bastard with a woman from EVERY culture" (not as ironborn, dragons and conquests may be required).

Roleplay.

Are you greedy? Tax the hell out of everyone, kidnap your subjects to squeeze more money out of them.

Are you just? Punish plotters and the more questionable of your subjects, redress grievances, reform the laws to be more in line with your beliefs.

Are you insane? Let Westeros burn.

I also conquered most of Essos once when gifted with an exceptionally capable and ambitious Targaryen, but... eh. :p

Somehow it always ends up sleeping with many women, some of them uncomfortably closely related. then shove the bastards into the Kingsguard.

When the mod updates, I've got a plan to divide the reach between 4 lords, because one man holding the reach is rather dangerous.

I focus on having my family on the throne, but not necessarily the character I play. In this way, I control a large paramouncy that will always support the family member on the throne. Practically like Tywin Lannister is doing.

I suppose the main thing you do is maintain the status quo on your favour and keep the realm from imploding. It would probably be accurate to say that the journey to the Iron Throne is more interesting than what you do once you achieve that goal.

In my last game before the RoI update, I had reclaimed the throne as Dany, along with Aegon, and produced 5 children, each of whom ended up with their own dragons. I then proceeded to launch a major world conquest, starting the stepstones and planning on moving on to some of the Free Cities before switching to the Summer Isles.

I conquered all of essos, Put family members in place of it and granted indepdence.

My goal in all my ck2 games is to make sure every hereditary title is held by a member of my dynasty. I'll go 50/3 for my demesne limit if I don't have an extra dynasty member to give land to, and I won't suffer giving anyone two titles because eventually a child inherits with a 1 demesne limit and gives it to someone else.

One thing that always keeps me busy is trying to keep the original great houses intact with their titles. It drives me crazy to see stuff like house Footley ruling over the entire Reach, so I try to preserve the status quo in the name of stability.

Execute your enemies, confiscate their lands and titles, stack the kingsguard with loyal badasses, look for dragons and valyrian blades, hold tournaments, impregnate mistresses........the usual.
