What do you think about a paradox fantasy 4x grand strategy game?

Paradox usually does historical games. But now that they have made a Sci-fi game Stellaris. Why not make a fantasy game?

I think it should work something like ck and eu4 but more sand-boxy.

seeing as Stellaris lack a soul compared to the first endless space, i do not want any similar game to the Endless legend. I like that game (even if i find combat clumsy and bad), and it has a soul and a theme.

I prefer when paradox stick to history and actually bring historical events. In stellaris, after some 100-200 years (i really don't know anymore when you start, but i mean by 2400+) there is nothing more to do than fight. No discover. In CK2 (3 too i guess, i haven't played it much, waiting for a bugfix for the release apparently bugged) and (better) in EU4 certainly, you always have random events even up to the end (even during 1820 for EU4 which ends in 1821).

So: no please. Rather, improve your current games.

I'd love it and I've been waiting for this since speculation started before PDXCon 2019.

Not only would it be cool to make a lot of mix-and-match fantasy empires, I think there's room for additional systems like perhaps adventurer groups made up of different empire's races that you could form, employ or who could be detrimental in some way when they roam the lands. Instead of straight up leaders, maybe there'd be "notable characters" that include adventurers, mayors, kings, strong threats, local bigwigs like guild leaders ...

The soft scenario way from Stellaris could still work here: Similar to how there's ancient fallen and marauder empires in Stellaris, there's a always a "big bad empire" generated here.

And finally, the civics should be more meaningful this time around. My greatest issue with Stellaris is flat boni from civics. The one's that restrict you and change mechanics are still my favorite, and if that is done better in a hypothetical fantasy Stellaris GSG then count me the heck in.

After Vic3, it's the game I most want PDS to announce someday. Though it still needs some work, I do very much like Stellaris' vision of allowing you to create your race and country to smallest detail, it's generated worlds, and it's use of popular SF tropes, and would want to see fantasy variant of it. I'd also like to see come CK elements as well. Being able to play an elven republic one time, and become an evil undead overlord in the next would be pretty fun.

If you mean by fantasy 4x Stellaris Kings that focuses on supernatural, personal and randomly generates worlds - then yes.

How about a twist on the CK familial mechanics... you don't play a race, or an Empire, you play as an individual god. An individual god among a sprawling celestial family tree of gods. In line with all the best polytheistic soap operas, you'd squabble and scheme with and against your fellow deities, have immortal offspring, throw your half-brother in god-prison, plot to overthrow your parents from the top god-throne, etc etc.

Underpinning all this would be the actual mortal world, which would essentially run along on its own, empires rising and falling, with its own CK-like cast of characters. You'd want as many mortals worshiping you as possible to boost your own power, so you'd be able to influence the world indirectly. Causing miracles or disasters, meddling with mortals through visions or possession, or even siring demigod children with them.

It’d be different from a traditional 4X as you’d measure your progress in spreading faith, rather than empire borders. The top-level celestial family management would hopefully provide a neat twist on anti-blobbing mechanics too – if your followers got a bit too fanatical and started crusades with everyone in sight, your god’s standing on Mount Olympus would worsen, so you’d have to play both games carefully.

I'd love it, but would like it to be more 4X'ie then EU4 and CK2, so I'd mix in Stellaris there as well for the comparisons. I'd hope they make it in the tradition of 4X fantasy with RPG elements with skill trees for heroes/characters, and with a dash of Grand Strategy of course. I think a province system will be more likely then hexagon tiles-system.

I think the greatest challenge would be how to design battles, since players are very used to tactical battles with spell casting in these kinds of games, something that won't work well in an RTS-setting.

a fantasy strategy game is a great idea: is better than al boring historical games.

I'm hoping for an turn based game. endless legends are a good example of interesting races. but one human faction is enough (human faction is boring)

My idea for a fantasy game:

A turn-based game with a fixed starting point for the faction. his city with a name. a fixed map of the world. Area to make: dessert, forest, sea or mountain and others. A forest living species has a forestliving bonus. Points of interest are random in this map: Caves, towers, temple ore mines and other. guarded by enemies.

for all faction are two ore ore three leader similar to the legend lord system from total war warhamer. a character with his story and bonus for his faction.

optional pre-set political alliances and enmities

for species paradox have many interesting species in stellaris

as game hook explore and fight.

makes units ( infantry, cavalry, artillery. Monster flying units and magic units) and make rock paper scissors system (example a speerman have a bonus to figt cavalary or a unit with havy weapon two handed axe is bad vs a light unit can good dodge)

turn-based fighting system similiar to age of wonders or xcom.
open a map for combats set up your units evrie unit have movement points and action points
i am not a fan of reacton blows in a closed combat situation as reaction of a attack. Makes close combat unites usles. a flanker system (more damage to flanked unit) and a moral system ( moral is broken unit run away)
standard action from units. move (use move points and move to ohter point) run (use action points to move more a way.) attack (use action points for standard atack from this unit) guard ( use action point for a defensive stance to becom smaller damage from attacts). for range combat units observation stance to shoot a enemy in his range (use action point)
a controllzone close combat units (move through this zone and you becom attack from enemy)

city from faction
first city is fix start position of this faction. new city created by siedler units
click of the city and open the city screen.
you can build buildings resourcess or rectories from units
rectories units is in the army self only musst be in your own territory.

sorry english is not my laguage
