What does a Maester do for a duke?

First time playing the mod, I started as a duke in Dorne. I had a Maester but there were no actions for him in the councilors' screen. Now he died and there are no more eligible maesters in my realm, so it'll cost me some money to send for one... should I?

Maesters get various events, good or bad. I guess you could say they have an "always on", non-location specific job: being a maester. They can raise troop morale by healing well (or lower it by succumbing to stress), and I think they also help with your children's education (+/- 1/2 to various traits)? Not sure if they do anything else.
