I was just about to load up my old savegame, which I had played just a few weeks ago.
Is it normal that all savegames from before version 4.0 are now unplayable?
Everything is completely broken on my end. All planets are uninhabited and I would have to colonize them all over again. There is no habited planet at all in my sphere.
This applies to all AI empires as well, as far as I see. Everything is effectively screwed.

4.0 was a huge rework of the game. Old saves will not be compatible.

If you want to continue on that old save, you should revert to a previous game version.

Yes. Any save from pre 4.0 WILL break. If you want to continue your save, you have to revert to an earlier version.

Trying to load an old save from before such major revision is always going to result in a really broken game state. I'm actually surprised the game even allowed you to try it.

If you still wish to complete the game, you need to roll back to the last pre-4.0 version in the Steam beta participation (or however that goes if you have Paradox or Gog versions).

Thanks. Sad for my safegame, but I really appriciate the answer!
