What happens beyond the 10x10 grid?

Hello all.

I'm on my third or fourth attempt at building a functional base. I'm slowly learning the game and loving it. I started to wonder this morning, what happens when you've built all the buildable areas in that 10x10 grid? Can you expand outside of that area or are you done? I'm hoping that we can expand beyond that...

Currently the 10x10 grid is all you get. After that you need to start from the beginning on a new map.

I don't think I've ever used more than 30% of all tiles.

And you're probably not wrong. I'm still a noob. But i've been watching more seasoned players that had most of it covered/built on. Hence the question...

I'm not sure what there is to do once you've got the "free resource" wonders in place and researched everything.

I'd got about 6 or 7 domes up at that point and had large numbers of housing and jobs open, and I'd terraformed the map. I didn't have above and beyond at that point, but that's only going to extend it a little provided I'm careful with my exotic crystals.

The way I see it, same ideas as with games such as Factorio. Once you've launched a rocket, you've reach the "goal" of the game, but then you can keep playing and expanding and such...
