What is a War Pact?

If you go to 'Options/Messagesettings' you see several optional messages regarding to War Pacts.
Definetely, the War Pact is not an Alliance. I did not manage to find what does 'War Pact' mean?

The BG had a defensive and an offensive alliance. I'm guessing the offensive was supposed to be this war pact.

Yeah, that would have been a nice addition. I hope we find it in EU2.

Defensive and Offensive alliances are also very historical. They were typical of the time period.

I think it was removed becourse of the difficutly of creating an AI that could manage multiple levels of Alliances.

Might be back in an EU 2 though =)
