My favorit faction is monstres:

Good moving range, cheap spamble archers for the defending of cities and battles, wich are able to be improved to the divine units if avatar comes or at another critical situation.

Scouts which are able to be upgraded to other good temple units with self heal ability and good resistances.

Perfect late game units - wolves, wich makes super AE damage. They are for me better then most of divine units and they can be buffed compeared with wolves of Helly.

Cities could be good specilised for gold and perfect for food, very usefull special perks at reccourses, like pumpkin, magic node and donkey let the city specialization more flexible. OK, I use to produkt additional mana with undead cities. But the monsters cities are able to produkt mana as well.

And one of the main thing - funny voices with lot of humor!:)

Another favorit would be the elven race. Only a thing - the specialization of cities is a bit difficult. But they have perfect scouts and archers wich rull till the late game. And I like divine units of this faction very much.

Another positiv point - the moving range of settlers with is very comfortable.

Negativ - no special perks from ressources, exept iron, units are too expensiv and takes longer to product, but due to strong low units the looting already in the early game is very rich. They can occupy monster cities in very early game easier then othe races.
But I hate the sound of units of elves.

What is your favorit faction? And why?

I can honestly say I don't have a favourite race, and like playing all of them for their unique characters. Adding the Koatl village early on can also make a race seem very different as they can fill in a weak gap in the starting race, so in some senses we have more than the 4 unique races. And then there is how you incorporate the mercenary troops near your staring position into your army, using lots donkey knights or halbadiers can make a big difference to the way a race plays.

Also you can play a race several different ways if you want. The OP mentions the Monsters but doesn't say much about the trolls and old trolls, for me they are some of the most over powered units in the game if developed properly and used with other supporting units and magic. When I play Monsters trolls tend to be the core of my army.

With Humans there are several ways to play the race, for instance you could rely heavily on mages, or go with veterans or rogues / cutthroats developing quickly towards a particular Temple unit that you favour like Blademaster or Assassin. In search of a fresh way to play I have even tried to develop a powerful catapult strategy  ... with several catapults and spells ... that didn't go so well  They are still too squishy and so sloooowww when moving anywhere outside your own territory.

Humans... its always been humans for me! I just play more naturally with them I guess. I like their large number of temple units as well. Perfect if going for a Holy Sites victory. As you can build your army up as you try to go for the sites.

Love the Elves though.

I almost always play as Humans but I like to use a mix of units. If I conquer an Undead City I always keep it so I can use Bats for scouting and Vampires as complement to Mages. From Monster Cities my favorites are Goblin Archers and Trolls. The main reason for playing as Humans are the Temple units. My favorites are Priestesses of Agrela and Paladins of Dauros.

I've found monsters to be the easiest ones to play, though I am worried that Trolls are a bit overpowered.

I do love the goblin archers though, they always make me smile.

If you try an Alternate World approach try the Elves. Nothing easier and earlier than to do it with some Elven bowmasters, which are accompanied by scouts that are NOT dead after they ran into the first red dragon.

I just tried it, and it worked quite well! I went right for the training ground in my capital, while using other cities to support my economy more than anything else, and once I actually found a portal, I had a force that was ready to enter it. Once upgraded, those basic elven spearmen & archers are quite good, even against the nasties that lurks in the other worlds.

Hi,

As all those who played vs me know, my favourite race is Monsters. They have a strong economy, good T1 units and the hill'o'win buff which i am fond of among other things. I don't know what is your general opinion on shamans/werewolves/trolls though. I find they are all very interesting units but very vulnerable... unless you get Lunord magic arrow resistance to protect them from archers. I end up never building these and relying on mercs until i get enough upgrades and perhaps this is my downfall. This is particularly inefficient vs rush strategies as goblins archers will get overrun by elven archers and unless you fight on flatlands, your goblin spearmen won't be able to make up for it.

My second favourite race is elves. They are indeed a one unit race but if you start with koatls or if you can capture a foreign city early you can make up for it. Their settlers are swift and allow to go occupy key resources more quickly. Also they do not need a rogue/ratmen guild in order to build a tax office, allowing to leverage on gold mines and such much quicker. I gave up building mana cities with elves as they are way too costly and yield useless units - unless there are 2 demon rifts or ancient ruins nearby. I rather go for a mana trap per city as additional mana income. I agree that their economy does not scale very well lategame, but who cares in multiplayer anyway?

Monsters, entirely for strategic reasons. Find a single pumpkin patch and put the special temple on it. Wham! All your units now get a cheap +3 regeneration per turn. You're now halfway to invincible already. Next put up a Temple to Helia and unleash one or two of the uber werewolf units from it, who get a second regeneration bonus and can easily top 90+ damage output without using any buff spells. You're done. You can now waltz through any town or any enemy you like and shrug off the worst enemy attacks like spitballs.

i agree 100%. although if they were a race of their own i'd say koatls are even more cheated. Their warlocks are too stronk dats it.

Monsters. Trolls. Hill'O'Win.

'nuff said! :D

After Monsters follow the Undead because of their huge mana-producing capabilities (YAY, SPELLS!) and their *undead howling voice on*Flying Galleussss*undead howling voice off*. After that follow the Elves. I never played humans so far because they seem boring, but don't know if they are, because i never could get myself to play them... ;)
