What is the best way to begin/learn how to mod HoI?

Hey everyone,

I love playing HoI and I am currently using CORE...awesome mod. Being the creative person I am, I have sudden had a surge of interest regarding modding HoI myself, although the only concept I have of modding it is going into the country text files and changing things...the most advanced thing I have ever done was remove the UK's production queue way back in version 1.00...so yeah I havnt got much of an idea.

Can someone give me insight on how to begin working on a mod that would be a new scenario to play within the game? All help would be appreciated.

You can start by stopping by Havard's HoI Hacking Heaven where you'll learn all the basics of modding.

If I were you, I'd wait for HOI2 and then learn how to mod. I'm sure there will be many changes.

What I did was open up the save file with notepad and looked around. Changed little things at first then moved on to the .inc country files then events then AI. The save game file is pretty self explanitory but stop off at the link gzav put up and make a country.
