I have tried this mod, and I have only respect for those who made it… But it annoys me that nothing really happens, when I play it!
I just sit in my court, no interesting independent nations around me, no unique event, it is like playing a german count in an even bigger HRE.
So, I just wait for my count to raise a family, die and get inherited. In the start it was all new and interesting, with new stuff and names, but after that, nothing of interest happened. I simply lost the passion, and it didn't feel like the GoT universe, but just something random made up. I guess I waited for something cool Roleplaying-stuff to happen, like events or something. So, based on that this was pretty boring for me, I stopped playing the mod. It felt like the world was even MORE stable than the world in CK2 Vanilla! And since there isn't any real historical version of this world, I don't know what to expect or look at? Normally I tend to follow the other houses and nations in CK2 Vanilla, to see how they evolve.

I know that if I play as King Stark or Baratheon it might be more challenging, but I really would prefer to also be able to play as a Duke or Count title, so I can still keep the overview of things, without it gets boring.

This is NOT a hateful comment, and I don't mean to critize anything, all in all it is properly just me who is weird, and yes, it still might be the best mod of it's kind. :)
But do anyone have felt the same? Do you have some advice to get a better experience of this mod?

I last played the game before the lands to the east was introduced. I have not read the books, but I have seen the first 3 seasons on TV, and I really liked it...

I can only speak for myself but when starting as a count I always plan ahead. So if i want to become Duke a good strategy is to wait for your liege to get a daughter. The most important thing is to get a bethrotal between your heir and his. Improve relations with him, send him gifts, tutor your sons with him all to get on his good side. Once you've got the bethrotal the fun begins, now you should kidnap his wife to prevent more sons being born from his line. You should also assassinate all his sons because it's important his daughter inherits after him. There your grandchild becomes duke after his mother dies and that's the marriage/intrigue way to gain power.

Another way to gain power is to fabricate claims on the other counts in the duchy expanding by county for county. When you're the only vassal left you fabricate claim on your liege and after you've won the war he loses his title and you're free to create it. I mainly start as counts and these are the strategies i usually use. Though i recommend you play in Ironman mode, it has it's drawbacks but it just makes you feel more involved and careful of your deciscions and it also prevents cheating which is awesome. With that being said you really should look up some Interesting characters thread, there must be one out there.

What you also should have is a longtime and a shortime goal in every game you play. What you want to achieve should be your goal and that could be for example to become the first Lord Paramount of the Crownlands, gain control of the Westerlands or just whatever you feel like. You need to think of how you can achieve this goal so if you're aiming for Lord Paramount a realistic goal should be to get control of at least one or two duchies at first then use the marriage/intrigue tactics to get the higher title. Also when i started as Duskendale, a duchy vassal in the crownlands i fabricated claims on the cracklaw point counties conquering them one by one while in the meantime I had spent alot of time intriguing to get my son bethroted the Duke of Rosby's heiress. Soon i had control of two duchies and my grandson would inherit the third and then conquering his way to become Lord Paramount of Crownlands. So you need use both tactics if you want to expand fast.

I agree that the mod is a bit boring if you don't play as a superpower (except for a few exceptions, like the Harlaw of the Iron Islands). The mod is just not focused on it.
Also you'll never see interesting independant states like in CK2 vanilla or in other mods.
Personally I only play this mod in multiplayer, because it feels more like a live rpg than the other mods. If you want interesting "fantasy" states, play Lux Invicta. If you want an immersive one-player rpg, play Elder Kings (it's difficult to play in multiplayer with this mod because the different states are not as balanced as in the AGOT mod).

Go play AGOT in multiplayer. Me and my group are having 15+ players roleplaying games with all players in the Seven Kingdoms. Obviously the game isn't balanced, and so ain't the lore. Reach can raise up to 100K, while the Dorne gets maximally to 30K. Therefore it is only enjoyable when you roleplay.

Also, if you read the books there is actually a fully developed history. It was just cut from the show because the showrunners wanted more scenes describing Podrick Payne's sexual prowess >:\

Go play harpy and just go enslave danny ;) , they are fun and you got way too much to do then .
selling slaves , breeding slaves , trying to stay alive from all those jealous and hatefull other slave owners .

Periodic revolts , cause they like to revolt , breed harpy slaves , start a harem of homosexual lesbian nuns who ae caught in plots (called devoted to harpy)
Make sure you win all those challengens from imprison people !
Infact so much to do :p I got bored and went to play classic , that had less excitement hahhaah

Thanks for your inputs, however I do have some follow-up questions...

1. Has there been added any Flavour-events for minor rulers since the Pre-Essos-versions?

2. If I were to start a new game, what bookmark would you recommand me to begin with?

3. If I were to start a new game, where on the map should I begin? Is there some areas better suited for my needs?

4. I tried installing the new version, and saw that there was characters with blue/green hair? Is that normal? And if it is, what is the deal with it?

5. I also noticed a lot of ?-signs on shields - have I messed up something in the installation process?

6. One of you mentioned Slaves, how does that work? I looked in the manuel, but there was nothing about it...

1 tons of events , give the modders a break , there are more events in this mod then original , lol even marriage event is like ine big eh ah you will see ;) , think too many female input sometimes .

2 Aegon conquest is always a nice start , for beginners , good solid team of characters with dragons .
and you are free to go west or east . Want to play like the serie and books think best one is the daenerys , before feast of crows . You can try to change the story a bit (some people detest you making danny a brilliant strategist and fight with her :p but I don't care am not replaying the book, I can reread the book )

3 That is depending on your needs , aside, sorry for being undiplomatic and assuming , you are getting frustrated with being beaten .
I really cannot guess what your real needs are , the game is quite complex cause it is CK2 .
And GOT makes it even more interesting complex .

4 like said think it is normal :p femine input ;) they think it is cute .

5 That sadly is normal , every version has that , it is a mod , so do not play mods if you cannot accept some glitches and bugs .

6 well in essteros , there three hiscari empires , is where the slave traders are , you need to have republic DLC .
But basically it involves slave trade and getting a court full of slaves lol , and getting everybody imprisoned to be your slave , then eh brutally whip them loyal . (pftt no event to be a nice slave master , go work on it !)
And just be a sadist , watch your tyranny rise lmao , before they come for you .
You can even hold slave raids , as Battles , win you get random slaves .

2. I find that the Bleeding Years bookmark is interesting if you want to play in a world without a unified Westeros. As has been said, Aegon's Conquest is a nice bookmark as well, especially if you play as Aegon himself. Balerion is an incredibly powerful dragon.

3. Don't start in any of the areas that don't have much canon info about them, like North Valyria, Ibben, Leng, Hyrkoon, etc. since there's not much flavour for them as a result of there not being much knowledge about them.

4. The people of some of the Free Cities are known to dye their hair bright colours (though the only one I know for certain that does this off the top of my head is Tyrosh). The blue and red and purple and green hair is meant to represent that I assume.

5. Normal; there are a bunch of areas and the devs haven't got around to adding a CoA for every county and duchy and barony and empire yet.

Thanks for the answers, will try out a game I think, give it a chance - after all, it seems like a massive effort from the creators to have reached this far…

However, I am sorry to ask one more stupid question, I could also just have made a new thread, but it regards something you all mention - Dragons?
When I last played this mod, a long time ago, the Valyrians attacked the mainland and they had a dragon. Through an event it burned my whole county and my whole family, thus Game Over!
How does these dragons work now? Has there been any changes? It sounds like you can control them, from what I read, like a Special Unit, but I could not see anything of it in the manual?
SovereignGrave you mentioned a dragon called Balerion? Do they have names now? It sounds really interesting...

Yeah, dragons are actual characters in the game now. If a character is a dragon rider then when they're commanding an army in battle or a siege they'll get a decision in the intrigue tab to deploy said dragon. And now since dragons are a character and not a trait, how powerful they are can differ (it's determined by their martial ability). I think you can still get the event where the dragon's flames kills off some of your characters if they're used against your capital, but it's not all that common.

EDIT: And the dragon shows up in their rider's relations tab under 'friends/dragons'.

Just play Aegon conquest , sadly they are on a island >.< so you need to summon boats to get them off the island
(something new people sometimes are confused already )
It is next to the summon levy , summon fleet , you can use embark or just move the fleet out of the port to sea .
And then select the group and click on the boat , disembarking just select the fleet , click on the men in the fleet window and select the terrain you want to land the whole group and dragons on .

Once you establish the landing or ironthrone , move your capital there for a easier time .
But Aegon conquest , gives beginners a lot of time to learn the mechanics , without really a fast rofl stomp game over.
so you are quite safe , and can explore the options on your own leisure and speed .
Even if you do not move off the island , drama and plots happens , that are very contained (not like ghiscari empire, where everybody is dying all over the place )
