If you want it to be immediately fun, pick a fair-sized duchy with room for expansion. A duchy in England or Scotland, or in Poland, or in northern Germany, or in Spain, or in Hungary, or in Russia. That gives you cash to play with, a dynasty to build, and minimal risk of getting swamped by Seljuks.

For good story-telling purposes? Pick something original but graspable. I nearly wrote an AAR as Aquitaine in the 1187 setting. Why? It's Richard, son of the king of England. :)

Alright then iv chose 4 Nations to pick from for a vote :D

1.Apeilia (fogot how to spell it) 1
2.Duchy of Cumberland 1
2.Kingdom of Castille 2
4.Duchy of Munster 1

I say Cumberland, Munster or Castile, simply because there's too many Apuila AARs.

Any of the Spanish kingdoms are good, since they're small enough not to be too powerful straight away, and the kingship means you have much more influence than you would with, say, a mere county. Also, plenty of heathen Mahometans to war against constantly. :D
