I wish to write a medivial mercenary story based in India using pictures from paradox games.
What do you folks think is the most anarchic period in Indian hhistory between 1000 AD and 1800 AD.

Basically a ripe playground for backstabbing mercenaries.

Very few Indian history enthusiast around here, I'm afraid

Try asking in the eu4 forum. Somehow they managed to create interest in Indian history. There should be some knowledgeable people around that forum.

My knowledge of Indian history is probably best described as very patchy, however, I do know that the period towards the end of the Mughal Empire, from about 1710, was chaotic. As imperial power declined local rulers gained de-facto independence and European powers began interfering in the local politics. Mercenaries were heavily used by both local and European powers during this period.

So can anyone at least answer which period of India is great for writing a story about a double crossing villainous backstabbing moneyhungry mercenary?
Isn't that literally Robert Clive?

I'd go for the 1526-1555 period.

There are plenty of times & places for good back-stabbing mercenaries, but this era is particularly fruitful.
