What's up with the "Maimed" trait?

I've been noticing that the "maimed" trait has been popping up a lot in my game. (Playing as Eddard Stark. The Crowned Stag.)

So Cersei and Tywin Lannister both died of severe maiming, the King has been maimed, his heir has been maimed, and my heir has been maimed. Am I missing something here?

Sometimes characters can get maimed in tourneys. It's not much, especially for Cersei, but that's one way it can happen off screen

Failed assassinations and battles/duels/hunts can also give it.

You can accidentally maim your son if you train with him.

Yes I think the likelyhood is too high somewhere between 10-20%.
Feels fishsy to me cause is like 50/50

Maimed should be a lot less common, wounded can replace it in a lot of circumstances.
