I'm trying to alter the weight of the various parties in the Senate, as I'm unhappy with how it currently breaks down. Generally, in games I play anyway, the Military faction is almost entirely unrepresented while the Mercantile faction -- due to the abundance of useless inland trade routes and no roads for much of the early/mid game -- is frequently dominant.

So I'm looking to lower the influence of trade routes on the Senate, as well as diddle with a few other settings to ensure a more colorful, competitive Senate -- one party rule is so dull.

But I can't find a central file for the workings of parties. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's not possible to mod the senate functions directly, I'm afraid. :(
I guess you could work your way around it, though. Try to give the civic faction leader less senate influence (in titles.txt), for example.

have a look at [TECH]Elections code, and you'll understand how can you modify a party's senate influence (using titles senate influence).

It is also modifiable using youths party influence (via events adding country modifiers and/or via laws doing the same thing).
