I recently had to uninstall the IGN Beta on Steam because the 25 April update (v1.1 build 5) caused a fatal-error crash (for other users also).
To be certain that all files had been removed, I searched to check if some files had been located outside of the Steam folder (which is often the case for the user's setting preferences and his saved games). I did not find any. On Windows 7, they might probably have been located in the C:\Users folder. I then ran a Registry cleaner to be thorough.
When Steam removed the defective update 1.1 and reinstated the original version 1.0 (build 22), after reinstalling, my old settings were enforced and my old saved games were available : they had not been deleted by the uninstallation of the defective update.
Unless the settings and saves had been stored on the Steam Cloud server, can somebody tell us where the setting preferences and saved games are kept on the user's system ?
