Although I've seen reports by others of the AI carrying out significant landings on the German coast and such, so far the British have been mostly absent in most of my games, not landing the British Expeditionary Force in France, using their forces in Norway and if they were active, they mostly were active in Africa or Asia. In Europe, they ususally restriced themselves to sending the RAF over to France.

So far, in all except one game, the French were overrun as they had a -smaller- army than the Germans (historically, theirs was larger, especially with the BEF added) and no support on land from the British. So, no miracle of Dunkirk, let alone for the French forces.

In the other game, while playing as the USSR, I put a lot of effort into building up the Red Army, intending to launch a massive, desperate assault in the German rear (no pun intended), hoping to take them off guard just as they are preparing to invade France and at least take out the troops stationed along the border. However, the Germans never attacked Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, let alone France or the USSR. Looking back in the game logs, apparantly somehow the Allies decided to let the German attack on Poland slide and have never even declared war! I haven't reconstructed what happened exactly, but the result is a bit boring. Currently they're off fighting a massively inflated Japanese Army that has already conquered China and wishes to add India and the Pacific to its territory. At least the Japanese decided to stick to the original plan. So far, the Allies are not doing so badly in the Pacific, but what the heck is going on in Europe?

Do we perhaps need an event for the BEF and another for Dunkirk?

GB AI is not working as intended....British Navy is TOTAL inactive and there is NO Brit. ship nowhere on the water bigger than a light cruiser and I just had a look what GB was producing and found 49 !!!!! queues of convoys 3 units each while having 850 convoys in stock...like this GB does not contribute in any way to an enjoyable game...

there's never been a BEF in HoI... if you want to simulate one, add a province connection between Portsmouth and Calais through the Mouth of the Thames... that way the UK will send their army to Frances and will even try to escape via it as well.

I've already read of other guys doing this trick, how can I mod this in? If it's not that hard I'd like to put an event that close this connection after Vichy France creation..

I'm glad there's no BEF (at least in patch 1.02 which I use) because they would be a handicap to the Brits instead of an asset to the French. There's no way a semi competent player can lose against the French (on normal/aggressive) using historical tactics, because armour is the ueber-infantry killer it is, and even 6 model 1939 medium tank divs with mot. divs to fill conquered territory, would smash thru the French defences, obliterating everything on their way.

However, I did notice once, when choosing total conquest instead of the armistice with the Petain govt. that there were British forces in the south of France, like 5-6 divisions.

SO maybe there's a BEF but it doesn't work as it should. Then again any AoD player who's playing Germany, would simply Dunkirk them, thereby making life after Dunkirk even more easy, and because France will fall anyways (against a human controlled GER) I don't see it as a big problem.
