hm ok. I mean I am a bit worried that the vanilla game has everyone living for ages and having loads of kids. I havent had a single child die ever, or lost a wife to childbirth ever. so yeah I think we need these events!

disappointed to have to add them.

question: why do so many events have MTTH 1? that seems odd!

The game devs have said that they abstracted out infant mortality rates by lowing the birth rate so you generally have the same number of kids reach adulthood as in CKI.

I don't really like this change since if your kids have a 99% chance to reach adulthood, it makes it really easy to place all your bets on a single heir.

If you do mod in events for increased child death rates, then make sure to increase the overall fertility rates to compensate.

Is the game speed will be lowered ?

Is that really the case though? I may have just been "lucky" with my characters, but it seems fairly normal for mine to have 4 or more all surviving children. Which is more than I remember happening in CK1...

well the way the game is designed with crown authority and next-to-impossible-to-dow christian neighbours, then almost impossible to keep said province because of de jure designs, inheritence is the only realistic way to get anywhere at all as a count. if everyone has 3-5 kids and the have a 100% survival rate its obviously a disaster for gameplay or even challenge.

so yeah I'll be adding these events as soon as I figure out how!

I wonder if it would be very hard to mod in. One event with a very low chance of triggering leading to a stillborn during pregnancy. One event with a very low chance of triggering leading to a dead child during birth. One event with a very low chance of triggering leading to a dead mother and child. One event with a very low chance of triggeringleading to a dead mother and a living child during birth. One event with an almost 50% chance of triggering that has the child dying before adulthood. Fertility needs to be increased (double?) to balance it out and for increased mortality across the board and during adulthood diseases and illness should be made more deadly. Dunno if fertility is hardcoded though...

It definitely ought not to be, as I believe there were infant mortality events in CK1, which follow a similar template to those in CK2.

Any good guides on adding events in this engine? Can find some descriptions on traits and provinces but nothing on events. The txt files read like gibberish to me now. I never modded a Paradox game before but am willing to give it a try.

@Rob de Hard
Did you remove a post or something? Because I do remember downloading three files you made yesterday, heh.

Anyhow, wanted to give feedback for those.
Personally I toned down the chances of wounds and whatnot happening in battle for characters that are good warriors, as having my martial 18 heir die in pursuit of 20 rebels at the head of 250 levies was too annoying to bear :p
Thanks for the files! (assuming I'm not mixing up threads)

Yeah I kept changing them and figured it would be best to post them when I am actually 100% sure they're playable hehe.
I noticed that martial skills dont seem to count for much, which needs some love also.

I wish I could say it helps the gameplay but it doesnt do jack to the main issue: france conquering half of iberia, hre just blobbing the hell out of all europe and byzantium being indestructible. even when the ai is forced to use a 7 year old craven infirm imbecile as its heir, it still doesnt break up. sucks.

Actually, posting modding work-in-progress tends to be a very good idea because - even if it doesn't really work yet - people are always willing to try it out and tweak it, so you don't need to do all the work and testing yourself (as Wellenbrecher has just done!).

Just deleted a perfectly fine reply. I really need to get used to how the quote button works in this forum...

I used this with my own bastardised version of GAGA's Bella Gerant Alii mod with a few others, mainly one that changes the Holy War CB a bit. I must say that helped a lot with France blobbing in Iberia and the HRE going on a spree in Africa.
And maybe - hopefully - it's due to the additional kingdoms, but France and the HRE in general aren't as stable and overpowering as before.

I did test this on a more or less hand off round last night, ~170 years in.

I can't really confirm this. The rate of attrition among characters with "bad" traits was a lot higher for me. At least after I tinkered a bit with the values for positive traits, like I said.
Also the aforementioned other mods may have played their part as well. GAGA did modifiy a few of the traits after all.

Maybe this helps a bit :)

Hey, you're actually modding childbirth and child mortality events in? Kewl.

For child mortality:
is it possible to give children a trait with -3 health
then at 6 it will be replaced by another trait with -1 ....

then the game events kill kids more often?

a bit offtopic: against the large empires (france HRE byz) wouldn't it help to increase the opinion malus from "opinion_modifiers.txt"
# OBSOLETE

just double the malus as a first step, then the vassasls should get more discontent with their liege and more wars for indipendece should happen

I think i will also go into modding some time soon. however this weekend i wanna give pure ck2 a chance...
